Savour the unequivocal French refinement of Albert Bichot Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons 2017. Produced in the grandeur of Burgundy, this harmonious blend by renowned estate Albert Bichot is denser than most Chablis, granting it rich, irresistible allure. The 2017 vintage was meticulously hand-harvested, maintaining the wine's absolute integrity. Grapes were vinified in traditional oak barrels for 10 to 12 months to accentuate the naturally complex minerality. Albert Bichot, steadfast in viticulture since 1350, ensures utter magnificence by adhering to sustainable agricultural methods, centring authenticity in every bottle. This award-winning producer has once again crafted an enchanting offering capturing a multitude of fresh and citric flavours, dominated by green apple and lemon, undercut by subtle flinty notes and a trace of salinity. Albert Bichot Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons 2017 distinctly transcends the ordinary Chablis, promising an unforgettable tasting experience and showing profound ageing potential. |

Vinous (93)The 2018 Chablis Les Vaucopins 1er Cru is quintessential Chablis on the nose of Granny Smith apples, petrichor and touches of pressed white flowers. Decanter (93)Domaine Long-Depaquit is the Chablis arm of the Bichot family. Vaucoupin is one of their signatures and in 2022 it shows a great combination of sun-ripened peach fruit on the palate, balanced by zesty acidity and a hint of white pepper. Lovely purity here. Manages to be both powerful and elegant at the same time. Already drinking nicely, this has the concentration to age very well. |

Burghound (90-92)(raised in ~15% wood). Here there is better Chablis typicity in the form of quinine, petrol, sea breeze and citrus on the floral and pear-scented nose. The mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is at once rich yet refined with good vibrancy while delivering fine length on the dry but not really austere finale. As pretty as this is though, it definitely will need to develop better depth to merit the upper end of my predicted range. |

Vinous (91+)Reticent but complex aromas of lime blossom, hazelnut, minerals and wet stone. Drier and more austere than the Blanchots, with a juiciness verging on painful to its grapefruit zest and crushed rock flavors. Seriously mineral wine with excellent extract and chewy length. Boasts good depth but not quite the depth or dimension of the Blanchots. |

Vinous (92+)Bright medium yellow. More minerally and complex than the 2016 version, offering aromas of white peach, fresh pineapple, orange oil, minerals and spicy oak. More imploded today than the Blanchots, showing less dimension but in need of time. An element of lemony acidity contributes to the wine's rather austere impression. But firm saline minerality and acidity give this very young, clenched grand cru the spine to age gracefully. Distinctly broader-shouldered than the 2016 version. This fruit was picked early, but the estate brought in their Blanchots and Montée de Tonnerre first, after the hail. |

A broader bouquet on the nose compared to Clos, as if Moutonne had thought about moving further south, while declining to abandon its Chablis roots. Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)5 Star Wine. Mid lemon in colour. A broader bouquet on the nose compared to Clos, as if Moutonne had thought about moving further south, while declining to abandon its Chablis roots. A suggestion of honeysuckle alongside the marine elements. Very skilfully poised on the palate. Fresh and racy at the finish with good flesh nicely tamed. Impressively persistent. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2024. |
