Marojallia
Chateau Marojallia is named after the Roman term for the Margaux region. This boutique left bank estate is part of the new wave of micro-cuvee winemakers. Philippe Porcheron’s debut vintage was in 1999 with Michel Rolland as consultant oenologist since 2000. This wine shows real ageing promise.

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-93)Saturated purple ruby. Aromas of blackberry, bitter chocolate, mocha and espresso, with a minty nuance. Then lush, pliant and deep, with lovely sweetness and density. Finishes with big, palate-coating, ripe tannins and strong fruit. This wine has been a moving target in its three vintages, as the 1999 was 80% cabernet sauvignon, the 2000 70% merlot and this 2001 roughly a 50/50 blend of the two varieties. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)The 2014 Marojallia is ripe, flashy and voluptuous, just as it was from barrel. Juicy red cherry and plum fruit, kirsch, espresso, spice and new French oak all meld together in an opulent, flamboyant wine that offers considerable immediacy and pure pleasure. The 2014 appears to have shut down a bit post-bottling, but it has plenty of richness and intensity. Readers should expect an unctuous, viscous, full-throttle Margaux. Tasted two times. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)The 2015 Marojallia is strong. Succulent plum, mocha, lavender and spice flesh out in those deep, plush Margaux. Deep, plush and exotically ripe in the glass, the 2015 is unapologetically flamboyant from start to finish. As good as the 2015s, I feel that, like the Margalaine, a measure of freshness and nuance was lost in aging. I suspect the bottled 2015 would have been closer to the barrel samples had the wine been bottled a bit earlier. |
