The pioneering Marquis d’Angerville was at the forefront of the struggle to fight corruption and protect standards in the 1920s. He was one of the first to introduce estate bottling. Francois Divivier joined Guillaume d’Angerville; with smaller yields and older vines their Burgundy is silky, aromatic and long lived.

The pure, poised palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and flavors of black cherry and strawberry pastilles. Very smooth toward the finish, which feels caressing. This Clos des Angles will be approachable and difficult to resist in its youth. |

Finishes with refined tannins, subtle sweetness and lovely slow-building savory length. Incidentally, the last time I tried this wine--in 2017 at the estate--it was silky and sweet but a bit more decadent and seemed to be evolving quickly. It provides that arching structure that defines this vineyard and gives it its longevity, yet paradoxically the mouth sensation is supple and smooth, with just a touch of spice tingling on the finish.
