Vinous (88-90)(not frosted but the yield was just 20 hectoliters per hectare): Good medium red. Sexy scents of red berries, plum and spices complicated by leather and earth nuances. Supple, fine-grained and sweet if not yet delivering the complexity promised by the nose. This midweight finishes with a fine dusting of tannins. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2018 Beaune Clos des Aigrots 1er Cru is matured in 15% new oak. It has a very delineated, focused bouquet of mineral-rich red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, gentle grip, superb mineralité and real weight and depth on the very long, persistent finish. This is beautifully balanced. Superb. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2018 Beaune Clos des Aigrots 1er Cru Blanc has a fragrant bouquet of orange blossom, tangerine and light petrolly aromas that lend an almost Riesling-like allure. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. The very harmonious finish displays nuttiness and salinity reminiscent of a Meursault. Excellent. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2020 Beaune Clos des Aigrots 1er Cru Blanc, which has been pressed using a vertical pressoir since 2017, has a lively bouquet with citrus peel, dried honey and light spicy aromas. The palate is very taut on the entry, good extract here with yellow fruit, dessicated orange peel and a touch of salinity towards the finish. Modest length. Enjoy over the next 12-15 years. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2019 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru comes from the oldest vines at the Domaine, 98 years old, that produced small yields according to Frédéric Lafarge. It has a beautiful, very pure kirsch and crushed strawberry nose laced with orange pith. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy red berry fruit that hide the structure underneath. More saline than Lafarge’s other cuvées it is very grippy on the finish. Excellent. |

Vinous (85-87)The 2021 Bourgogne Pinot Noir has an uncomplicated earthy, sous-bois-infused bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, but I find this a little dry on the finish at the moment. This needs a bit of a pep-up. |

Vinous (91-94)The 2009 Pommard Pezerolles emerges from the glass with freshly cut roses, raspberries and sweet spices. This is an utterly refined Pommard. There is plenty of energy and vigor, but the fruit has more than enough pedigree and depth to stand up to the tannins. This is the estate's smallest cuvée; in 2009 there are only two barrels. |

Vinous (95-97)The 2017 Volnay Clos du Château des Ducs is completely de-stemmed by hand this year, which took just over 30 hours according to Frédéric Lafarge. It has a very pure bouquet with redcurrant, wild strawberry, crushed stone and light rose petal aromas, more feminine than the Clos des Chênes but just as captivating. The palate is packed full of energy and vivacity, superb tension running from start to finish with the mineralité flooding across the entrancing finish. Outstanding. Very pure and given that nascent energy, a long-term prospect. |

Vinous (95-97)The 2018 Volnay Clos du Château des Ducs 1er Cru was de-stalked by hand, a practice incepted with the 2016 vintage. It demands more coaxing from the glass, but reveals wonderful violet-infused red currant, cranberry and wild cherry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe tannins and great depth but gentle grip. This is your quintessential iron fist in a velvet glove. Wonderful spiciness lingers for more than 60 seconds on the finish. Stunning. |

Wine Advocate (94-96+)The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Clos du Château des Ducs is liable to overshadow even the emblematic Clos des Chênes this year. Offering up a profound bouquet of blackberries, sweet spices, rose petals, orange rind, summer truffles and forest floor, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and immensely concentrated, with lively acids, abundant but almost imperceptible tannins and a long, saline finish. |
