Vinous (87-89)(from a recently purchased parcel of 40- to 45-year-old vines) Bright, deep red. Fruit-driven cherry aroma complicated by licorice and mint. Sweet and fruity but less complex than the Volnay premier cru. In a more vertical style, with a lovely sugar/acid balance. Finishes persistent, firmly tannic and youthfully tight. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2018 Beaune Clos des Aigrots 1er Cru is matured in 15% new oak. It has a very delineated, focused bouquet of mineral-rich red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, gentle grip, superb mineralité and real weight and depth on the very long, persistent finish. This is beautifully balanced. Superb. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2018 Beaune Clos des Aigrots 1er Cru Blanc has a fragrant bouquet of orange blossom, tangerine and light petrolly aromas that lend an almost Riesling-like allure. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. The very harmonious finish displays nuttiness and salinity reminiscent of a Meursault. Excellent. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2020 Beaune Clos des Aigrots 1er Cru Blanc, which has been pressed using a vertical pressoir since 2017, has a lively bouquet with citrus peel, dried honey and light spicy aromas. The palate is very taut on the entry, good extract here with yellow fruit, dessicated orange peel and a touch of salinity towards the finish. Modest length. Enjoy over the next 12-15 years. |

Vinous (86-88)The 2019 Bourgogne Aligoté Raisins Dorés, which was taken from barrel and no concrete tanks as usual because of the small quantity, has a fragrant nose with grapefruit and honeysuckle scents. Vinous (89-90)The 2018 Bourgogne Pinot Noir offers black cherries, raspberry and light floral notes on the nose, which is quite pure in style and finely delineated. The harmonious palate is underpinned by fine tannins and vivid red fruit on a finish so approachable that you could drink it directly from any one of its used barrels. |

Vinous (86-88)The 2020 Bourgogne Pinot Noir has quite a backward nose, darker fruit than some of its peers, though well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, good backbone here, also quite "strict" in style (in a Pommard kinda way). This might age better than you think. |

Vinous (85-87)The 2021 Bourgogne Pinot Noir has an uncomplicated earthy, sous-bois-infused bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, but I find this a little dry on the finish at the moment. This needs a bit of a pep-up. |

Vinous (91-94)The 2009 Pommard Pezerolles emerges from the glass with freshly cut roses, raspberries and sweet spices. This is an utterly refined Pommard. There is plenty of energy and vigor, but the fruit has more than enough pedigree and depth to stand up to the tannins. This is the estate's smallest cuvée; in 2009 there are only two barrels. |

Vinous (90+)Deep, saturated red with ruby tones. Reticent but pure aromas of black cherry, bitter chocolate and mint. Sweet and silky on entry, then concentrated and lively in the middle, offering very ripe but vibrant flavors of blackberry, licorice and spice. Finishes very long, with a medicinal reserve and excellent thrust. Remains light on its feet in spite of the power of the vintage. |

Vinous (95-97)The 2017 Volnay Clos du Château des Ducs is completely de-stemmed by hand this year, which took just over 30 hours according to Frédéric Lafarge. It has a very pure bouquet with redcurrant, wild strawberry, crushed stone and light rose petal aromas, more feminine than the Clos des Chênes but just as captivating. The palate is packed full of energy and vivacity, superb tension running from start to finish with the mineralité flooding across the entrancing finish. Outstanding. Very pure and given that nascent energy, a long-term prospect. |

Vinous (95-97)The 2018 Volnay Clos du Château des Ducs 1er Cru was de-stalked by hand, a practice incepted with the 2016 vintage. It demands more coaxing from the glass, but reveals wonderful violet-infused red currant, cranberry and wild cherry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe tannins and great depth but gentle grip. This is your quintessential iron fist in a velvet glove. Wonderful spiciness lingers for more than 60 seconds on the finish. Stunning. |

Wine Advocate (94-96+)The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Clos du Château des Ducs is liable to overshadow even the emblematic Clos des Chênes this year. Offering up a profound bouquet of blackberries, sweet spices, rose petals, orange rind, summer truffles and forest floor, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and immensely concentrated, with lively acids, abundant but almost imperceptible tannins and a long, saline finish. |

Vinous (93)Good dark red with ruby tones. Very sexy, mellow scents and flavors of raspberry, plum, spices and truffley underbrush. Wonderfully broad and full but fresh as well; at once tangy and savory in the mid-palate, spreading out to saturate the entire mouth. Very ripe but not particularly sweet, finishing with broad, dusty, very fine-grained tannins and terrific length. Frédéric Lafarge described 1999 as an immense vintage and he wasn't just speaking about yields, which in the case of this wine was a very reasonable 39 hectoliters per hectare. |

Vinous (93)Good deep red-ruby color. Black fruits, violet and pepper on the nose, with a suggestion of oak spice. Large-scaled, lush and vinous, with full but juicy flavors of dark berries and violet. This, too, boasts lovely restrained sweetness. A wine of huge phenolic material, with the dusty tannins coating the entire palate. Here's a 2003 that calls for a good decade of aging and may well evolve in bottle for 20 years or more. |

Vinous (92+)Good medium red. High-pitched aromas of cherry, mint and flowers. Supple and seamless, with nicely integrated acidity giving the wine an impression of energy. I like this Volnay's impression of medicinal reserve. A very rich and deep wine, building impressively on the back end and finishing with noteworthy subtlety. Youthfully unevolved, with a lot more to come |
