Vinous (90)High-toned, expressive aromas of citrus fruits, pear, flowers and clove. Sweet, fat and full but quite suave and not at all overripe. This has terrific stuffing for a 2004, especially considering the fact that these vines were recently replanted. Finishes firm and persistent, with lingering sweetness. Niellon prefers chardonnay vintages in which the vines suffer a bit, like 2004. |

Vinous (91)Complex, subtle nose combines lime, smoke, minerals, nuts and earth. A distinct step up in texture and concentration from the premier crus; fresh, nicely delineated and solidly structured. Classy and light on its feet. Finishes subtle and long, and not at all austere for a '99. |

Wine Advocate (94)Niellon's 2015 Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru is superb, opening with a lovely nose of pastry cream, preserved lemon, beeswax and toasted nuts, framed by new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated and textural, with a glossy attack, a deep mid-palate, and a bright, lightly grippy finish. While this is a powerful, dramatic Chevalier Montrachet it's very nicely balanced. |

Burghound (97)Don't miss! An overtly floral-suffused nose speaks of the ripe essence of white peach, passion fruit, anise, exotic Asian-style tea and in particularly jasmine, tangerine rind and a hint of wood influence. There is exceptionally good density to the palate staining big-bodied flavors that exhibit impressive power on the muscular and overtly mineral-driven finale which offers massive length on the ever-so-slightly warm finale. This very serious effort is a classic Chevalier of class and grace and it's also a wine that I could still taste 24 hours later. It will be hard to find but worth it as this is one of the wines of the vintage. In a word, brilliant. 2032+ |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95)Pure and clear. The nose is very austere indeed, almost aggressively on the limestone. Yet there is a marvellous wealth of exciting fruit behind. Energy from the start, wait for the length because it is that, rather than the depth and breadth, which signifies well in 2021. This should be pretty fine later on. |
