    • Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanee 2016 (1x75cl)

      Wine Advocate (91+)

The superb 2016 Vosne-Romanée Village unfurls in the glass with a lovely bouquet of raspberries, cherries, dark chocolate, grilled game and spicy new wood. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a tight-knit core, fine-grained but firm structuring tannins and juicy balancing acids. This has closed down since the days of its comparatively expressive showing from barrel, and it's now clear that this is a vintage that will demand some time.

      Wine Advocate (91)

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Village confirms the promise it showed in barrel, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, red berries, peonies and sweet soil tones. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and satiny, with succulent acids, melting tannins and a long and perfumed finish. While it's deceptively approachable, long-time followers of this cuvée will know that it will amply reward bottle age with enhanced depth and complexity.

      Vinous (89-91)

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Village comes from three or four parcels within the commune. It has slightly darker fruit compared to the La Colombière, perhaps not quite as pixelated in style. The palate is fleshy and forward with succulent ripe tannins, good density and layer of raspberry, strawberry and spicebox toward the finish. Just a delicious Vosne-Romanée.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Village comes from all the domaine’s parcels except for La Colombière. This has a fragrant bouquet of rose-petal-tinged dark berry fruit; the 40% new oak is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. A little pinched at the moment, but it will flesh out with aeration. Fine.

      Vinous (89-91)

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Village is a blend of four parcels, cropped at 36hL/ha and matured in one-third new oak. It has a perfumed bouquet with wilted violets infusing the red berry fruit. The palate has a sense of brightness on the entry, hints of confit strawberry, just a very light marine note with a finely-structured, lightly-spiced, bitter cherry finish. This will be difficult to resist young.

Evoking the pure essence of Burgundy, the Mugneret Gibourg Bourgogne Rouge 2014 is a testament to the artisanal skills of this family-run domain. Operating out of Vosne-Romanée, the heart of Burgundy's famed Côte d'Or, the Mugneret-Gibourg family's wines are fabled for their elegance, depth and precision, and this vintage is no exception.

Brimming with expressive red fruit aromas like cherries and raspberries, this Pinot Noir offers an astounding depth of flavours flawlessly balanced by harmonious tannins and crisp acidity. Crafted sustainably and harvested by hand, all grapes exhibit maturity at their time of picking for optimum quality.

The Mugneret Gibourg Bourgogne Rouge 2014 was aged in French oak, contributing to its fine structure and elegance. This epitome of a classic Burgundian red, it showcases the terroir with sheer brilliance, making it a lavish addition to any fine wine repertoire.

      Vinous (94)

The 2009 Clos de Vougeot is a huge, huge Burgundy. It will need considerable time to shed its baby fat and its considerable tannin. The 2009 boasts incredible depth and richness, with layers of dark red fruit that saturate the palate through to the finish. The 2009 is a super impressive showing from the Mugneret sisters. This is an intense style of Clos de Vougeot that has also maintained considerable freshness.

    • Mugneret Gibourg Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2010 (1x75cl)

      Vinous (95)

Good medium red with a healthy rim. Alluring, deeply pitched aromas of raspberry, mocha, dried flowers, spices and smoky oak. Then juicy, salty and penetrating, with the low yield of the vintage obvious in the wine's intensity. Firm acidity--probably higher than the last three wines, notes Marie-Andrée--energizes and sharpens the highly complex flavors of red and darker berries, licorice, spices, blood orange and black pepper. A wine with outstanding precision, this beauty boasts terrific inner-mouth floral lift and also spreads out horizontally to saturate the palate on the very long whiplash of a finish. Plenty of soil-driven minerality here and still distinctly firm-edged on the aftertaste. Marie-Christine noted that this wine was very closed when she pulled the cork an hour before our tasting. (13.5% alcohol; 3.5 pH; 35 hl/h; harvested on September 25)

Bright medium red. Lovely ineffable perfume of red cherry, raspberry, minerals and flowers, plus a darker suggestion of blackberry. Boasts great intensity to its flavors of red and black fruits and flowers, with captivating minerality and perfectly integrated acidity giving the wine outstanding inner-mouth tension without any hardness. Firm, even, late-arriving tannins frame the fruit on the rising finish of this very classy grand cru.

    • Mugneret Gibourg Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2014 (1x75cl)

      Vinous (94)

Healthy medium red; not as dark as the '15. Spicy red fruits, menthol and musky soil tones on the expressive nose, along with the salty aspect of this vintage. Fine-grained, floral and mineral-driven, conveying terrific cut to its strawberry, raspberry and blood orange fruit flavors. But owing to its strong saline minerality, this dense but juicy wine is about much more than primary fruit and is already long on personality. More savory and refined than the very young 2015 if not nearly as massive as that wine. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and a lingering spice element. • Mugneret Gibourg Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2015 (3x75cl)

      Vinous (96)

Healthy dark red with ruby highlights. Lovely floral, spicy high tones to the aromas of dark cherry and raspberry. In a distinctly ripe style for this bottling, offering sweet, plush flavors of black raspberry, licorice, flowers, crushed rock and bitter chocolate. Still some new oak to be absorbed but this large-scaled Clos Vougeot has the stuffing to support it. Finishes ripely tannic and very long, with palate-saturating richness and captivating savory minerality. The first wine of my morning vertical tasting with the Mugneret sisters and a true breakfast of champions. Vinous (93-95)

(just four barrels produced; my sample was a blend of all of them): Dark red-ruby color. Very deep aromas of black cherry and crushed dark raspberry lifted by subtle treble notes of white pepper and flowers. Densely packed and wonderfully velvety and full; perhaps a bit less refined than the Ruchottes due to the smaller crop and impression of chewy extract, but this wine boasts terrific definition, not to mention suave, fully ripe tannins for Clos Vougeot. Finishes lively, subtle and very long, with building richness. This fruit was harvested at 12.9% potential alcohol and the wine should age for a long time on its sheer strength of material. Splendid.

The 2009 Echezeaux comes across as rich, powerful and totally seductive. It shows considerable richness and depth in a more immediate style than the 2010. The aromatics and nuance of the 2010 are missing, but in exchange readers will find a deep, fleshy wine that will deliver considerable pleasure with minimum cellaring. I especially like the intensity of the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2034.

Dark red cherry, plum, spices, menthol and licorice all flesh out in the 2011 Echézeaux, a powerful, incredibly inviting Burgundy loaded with class and personality. Layers of dark, deeply spiced fruit blossom in the glass as the 2011 shows off its pure volume. The Echézeaux boasts fabulous extract and serious concentration. A dark, powerful, brooding wine, the 2012 Echézeaux boasts stunning depth and concentration. This is an unusually big, rich wine for the domaine, yet all the elements are wonderfully balanced. Layers of dark, spiced fruit flow through to the resonant, hugely expressive finish. The abnormally low yields of the vintage are felt in the wine's gravitas and breath. Readers who can find the Echézeaux should not hesitate. It is magnificent. Yields were just 10 hectoliters per hectare in Rouge du Bas and 25 hectoliters per hectare in Quartiers de Nuits.

Good bright, deep red. Complex, subtle aromas of raspberry, redcurrant and graphite minerality, plus some sexy oak tones. Ripe and silky, even plump for the year, but classically dry and light on its feet. Saturates the mouth and cheeks without leaving any impression of heaviness. At this point in my tasting, Marie-Christine Mugneret noted that these 2013s had been uncorked the previous evening. They are showing spectacularly now and I suspect they benefited dramatically from aeration. Finishes with very suave, even tannins and a suggestion of minty lift. Very classy juice.

Good full red. Reticent aromas of redcurrant, tobacco, dried rose and musky minerality complemented by a touch of smoky, spicy oak. The oak element builds in the mouth, which is less sweet and filled in today than the Feusselottes. Hints of dried flowers and menthol currently dominate the wine's red berry flavors. A touch tart-edged on the finish, with the tannins showing a slightly granular quality. I don't find the same consistent ripeness here that the estate's two other grand crus display.

(55% new oak; from Les Rouges du Bas and Les Quartiers de Nuits): Bright medium ruby. Very pure but subtle and shy on the nose, exuding scents of blackberry, dark cherry, violet and dark chocolate accented by orange zest. Offers an exhilarating balance of almost chocolatey sweetness and penetrating acidity. Finishes very long and primary, even a bit inky, with suave tannins and firm acidity.

    • Mugneret Gibourg Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2009 (1x75cl)

    • Mugneret Gibourg Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2011 (1x75cl)

      Vinous (95)

The 2011 Clos-Vougeot comes across as deep, powerful and also closed in on itself. Here the flavors are beautifully centered and polished throughout. Fine, crystalline tannins support the bright, delineated finish. The 2011 is a rare Clos Vougeot that is both finessed and powerful. The bright, saline finish is hard to resist.

      Vinous (95)

(13.3% alcohol; 3.5 pH; harvested on September 5; 41 hectoliters per hectare produced; aged in 70% new oak)

    • Mugneret Gibourg Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2016 (3x75cl)

Splendid.

    • Mugneret Gibourg Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2019 (1x75cl)

      Vinous (94-96)

The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is tight on the nose but only needs modest aeration to reveal intense blackberry and bilberry fruit, superb mineralité, and faint hints of licorice patiently waiting in the wings. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, crisp acidity and a persistent saline finish. Excellent.

      Wine Advocate (95)

The 2009 Echezeaux comes across as rich, powerful and totally seductive. It shows considerable richness and depth in a more immediate style than the 2010. The aromatics and nuance of the 2010 are missing, but in exchange readers will find a deep, fleshy wine that will deliver considerable pleasure with minimum cellaring. I especially like the intensity of the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2034.

      Vinous (96)

Dark red cherry, plum, spices, menthol and licorice all flesh out in the 2011 Echézeaux, a powerful, incredibly inviting Burgundy loaded with class and personality. Layers of dark, deeply spiced fruit blossom in the glass as the 2011 shows off its pure volume. The Echézeaux boasts fabulous extract and serious concentration. This is a marvelous Burgundy built for the cellar. Today, the 2011 is every bit as magnificent as it was from barrel.

    • Mugneret Gibourg Echezeaux Grand Cru 2012 (1x75cl)

      Vinous (93-96)

      Vinous (94)

      Vinous (92)

Good full red. Reticent aromas of redcurrant, tobacco, dried rose and musky minerality complemented by a touch of smoky, spicy oak. The oak element builds in the mouth, which is less sweet and filled in today than the Feusselottes. Hints of dried flowers and menthol currently dominate the wine's red berry flavors. A touch tart-edged on the finish, with the tannins showing a slightly granular quality. I don't find the same consistent ripeness here that the estate's two other grand crus display.

      Vinous (92-94)

(55% new oak; from Les Rouges du Bas and Les Quartiers de Nuits): Bright medium ruby. Very pure but subtle and shy on the nose, exuding scents of blackberry, dark cherry, violet and dark chocolate accented by orange zest. Offers an exhilarating balance of almost chocolatey sweetness and penetrating acidity. Finishes very long and primary, even a bit inky, with suave tannins and firm acidity. Marie-Christine Mugneret noted that new oak really marks the delicate Echézeaux character, but this wine has the stuffing to support its lumber.
