Excellent deep red. Complex aromas of red- and blackcurrants, minerals and smoke, along with an herbal topnote; smells much sweeter from bottle than it did a year ago from barrel. Sweet, broad and deep; less complex today in the mouth than the Ruchottes, but offers terrific texture. The tannins hit the palate earlier than those of the Ruchottes, but there also very strong, persistent back-end fruit flavor.Inc. VAT£912.53 -

Medium red. Very reticent, slightly reductive aromas of licorice and menthol. Silky on entry, then minerally and tight in the middle and youthfully austere. But this pure, intense wine finishes with superb lift and perfume and firm tannins that show no sign of hardness. This will need a good six or seven years of patience. I would not be at all surprised if the Mugnerets' compellingly pure 2001 grand crus merited higher scores with time in bottle.Inc. VAT£779.99 -

Moderately saturated medium red with an amber edge. Mature scents of smoke, game, herbs and spices, plus a whiff of asparagus. Surprisingly sweet on entry, then nicely intense and mature in the middle palate, with game and clove flavors joined by black pepper and a hint of pyrazines. My enthusiasm was a bit dampened by a slight peppery edge that dries the dusty tannins and leaves behind a hint of tartness. Perhaps a bit more vegetal than fruity at this point but by no means bitterly green. Marie-Andrée described the 2004 vintage as a great challenge, although she maintained early on that any green character in the estate's wines in '04 were due to incomplete ripeness and not to the ladybug issue that plagued some red Burgundies that year. Medium red with a hint of amber. Musky red fruits, spices, menthol and herbs on the nose, complicated by a whiff of leather. Seamless and suave in texture, with some leather and herb impingements to its red fruit and spice flavors. Offers lovely easygoing sweetness along with complex soil tones and very good vinosity. Finishes with a late dusting of tannins. A subtly sophisticated Clos Vougeot but probably for mid-term rather than long aging. The Mugneret sisters compared this wine to the 2017 version, noting that the acidity was going down at the time of the very early harvest. The 2009 Clos de Vougeot is a huge, huge Burgundy. It will need considerable time to shed its baby fat and its considerable tannin. Good medium red with a healthy rim. Alluring, deeply pitched aromas of raspberry, mocha, dried flowers, spices and smoky oak. Then juicy, salty and penetrating, with the low yield of the vintage obvious in the wine's intensity. Firm acidity--probably higher than the last three wines, notes Marie-Andrée--energizes and sharpens the highly complex flavors of red and darker berries, licorice, spices, blood orange and black pepper. A wine with outstanding precision, this beauty boasts terrific inner-mouth floral lift and also spreads out horizontally to saturate the palate on the very long whiplash of a finish. Plenty of soil-driven minerality here and still distinctly firm-edged on the aftertaste. Marie-Christine noted that this wine was very closed when she pulled the cork an hour before our tasting. Healthy medium red; not as dark as the '15. Spicy red fruits, menthol and musky soil tones on the expressive nose, along with the salty aspect of this vintage. Fine-grained, floral and mineral-driven, conveying terrific cut to its strawberry, raspberry and blood orange fruit flavors. But owing to its strong saline minerality, this dense but juicy wine is about much more than primary fruit and is already long on personality. More savory and refined than the very young 2015 if not nearly as massive as that wine. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and a lingering spice element. At this point in my tasting, Marie-Christine Mugneret noted that these 2013s had been uncorked the previous evening. Ripe and silky, even plump for the year, but classically dry and light on its feet. Saturates the mouth and cheeks without leaving any impression of heaviness. At this point in my tasting, Marie-Christine Mugneret noted that these 2013s had been uncorked the previous evening. They are showing spectacularly now and I suspect they benefited dramatically from aeration. Finishes with very suave, even tannins and a suggestion of minty lift. Very classy juice. In Bond£782.00 -

Good full red. Reticent aromas of redcurrant, tobacco, dried rose and musky minerality complemented by a touch of smoky, spicy oak. The oak element builds in the mouth, which is less sweet and filled in today than the Feusselottes. Hints of dried flowers and menthol currently dominate the wine's red berry flavors. A touch tart-edged on the finish, with the tannins showing a slightly granular quality. I don't find the same consistent ripeness here that the estate's two other grand crus display.Inc. VAT£746.40 -

(55% new oak; from Les Rouges du Bas and Les Quartiers de Nuits): Bright medium ruby. Very pure but subtle and shy on the nose, exuding scents of blackberry, dark cherry, violet and dark chocolate accented by orange zest. Offers an exhilarating balance of almost chocolatey sweetness and penetrating acidity. Finishes very long and primary, even a bit inky, with suave tannins and firm acidity. Marie-Christine Mugneret noted that new oak really marks the delicate Echézeaux character, but this wine has the stuffing to support its lumber. In Bond£1,687.00
