From Hungary's prestigious Tokaj region comes the Pajzos Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos 1993, an exceptional expression of the renowned Furmint and Hárslevelű grapes. With an enchanting depth of flavour, this golden nectar exhibits the defining honey, dried apricot and marmalade notes inherent in the Aszú style. Pajzos, a longstanding figure in the viticultural history of Tokaj, showcases the region's volcanic soil through meticulous grape selection and fermentation in traditional oak casks. The climatic 'noble rot' botrytis cinerea delineates its exquisite sweetness and contributes to a lingering, balanced finish. The prestigious '5 Puttonyos' classification denotes the elevated concentration of Aszú-berries used, captivating all palates. The 1993 vintage is revered for its remarkable complexity and refinement. The Pajzos Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos 1993 is a choice selection for those seeking to explore the inherent elegance found in this Tokaj Aszú. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (93)The 1993 Tokaji Essencia was a miniscule maiden release of 400 bottles, so this is now extremely rare, a handful remaining in Mád. It contains 580 g/l residual sugar and 18.1 g/l acidity. There is a slight turbidity here, as it is believed that the 1993 did not go through a precise clarification. It has a slightly more tertiary nose, revealing hints of damp loam that percolate through the fig, date and marmalade scents. Later, there is a subtle estuarine element. The palate is surprisingly light on its toes, with fine tension and vitality. High acidity maintains a sense of energy, though this just tapers towards the finish unlike and leaves a slightly bitter residue. |
