(the 30th anniversary for this cru, which was bottled on its own beginning in 1978; Scavino will offer just over 200 cases, plus a few magnums; bottled with the estate's old gold label): Good deep, youthful red. Deep, pure, almost shockingly primary aromas of black cherry and espresso. At once silky and vinous, saturating the entire palate under a wave of red fruits and smoky minerality. Wonderfully plush and sweet but powerful too, finishing with noble tannins and sexy building length. Impeccable balance gives this wine an almost magical light touch. The 2013 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is one of the most complete and satisfying wines in the range. Exquisitely layered and precise, the Bric del Fiasc is also unusually nuanced in this vintage. Iron, smoke, rose petal, mint and crushed flowers give the wine its distinctive aromatic signatures. The driving Bric del Fiasc tannins are present, and yet the 2013 is laid back and understated - as all the 2013s Barolos are - with less of its customary explosiveness and brutish power. The 2016 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is a powerful, muscular wine. Youthfully austere and tannic, the 2016 is going to need a number of years to come around, but it is magnificent, even in the early going. Layers of building tannins enshroud a core of dark Nebbiolo fruit, with hints of dried herbs, iron, leather and sweet tobacco that develop with a bit of coaxing. As always, Bric del Fiasc has a feral intensity to it. The 2016 is an especially fine edition and also a terrific example of the style of this Castiglione Falletto site.Inc. VAT£501.20 -

Medium to full-bodied, it’s weightless on the palate, with a savory note of tea leaf upfront as well as hints of cherry pit and walnut, and it has a long finish. It’s a bit more broad-shouldered but wears it with a graceful touch. Drink 2026-2046.In Bond£414.00 -

Scavino’s 2016 Barolo Ravera is another highlight in this range. Tense, brilliant and finely sculpted, the 2016 has so much going on. Crushed flowers, iron, mint and cedar add beguiling aromatic breadth to a core of translucent, intense Nebbiolo fruit. The 2016 really captures the energy that makes wines from this site so distinctive. The 2016 was fermented in stainless steel and aged entirely in cask.In Bond£417.00
