Boasting a heritage spanning almost 500 years, the Philipponnat family has been cultivating vines in the region of Aÿ as early as 1522 and count the Court of Louis XIV, Magistrates and Royal Mayors of Aÿ as its loyal patrons amongst many others.

The 2006 Clos des Goisses Rosé is a deceptively powerful Champagne. Pale in color, as it always is, the 2006 Rosé packs a serious punch. Deep, exquisitely layered and persistent on the palate, the 2006 offers a compelling interplay of power and finesse. The Clos des Goisses Rosé is the same base as the Blanc, with the addition of 9% Pinot vinified with the saignée method (rather than still). In 2009, the Juste Rosé has a bit more body and resonance than normal, which works so well here given that it can be a bit fleeting. Crushed red berries, mint, white pepper and chalk are some of the many aromas and flavors that race through this taut, finely sculpted Rosé from Philipponnat. The 2009 is beautifully done. The 2012 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé is a wild, exotic wine. Kirsch, white pepper, flowers, mint and cranberry lend a gorgeous air of exoticism. As always, the Rosé is light in body gracious and all finesse. The blend is 68% Pinot Noir and 32% Chardonnay. This is the first release made with a blend of what is essentially a Blanc de Noirs base, with the ‘still red’ portion (18%) coming from a saignée. The 1996 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses L.V. has reached a glorious peak of expression. Apricot, burnt sugar, spice, pastry, hazelnut and a whole range of reductive notes that have developed in bottle fill out the layers. In 1996, Clos des Goisses was still aged on cork (for both the original and L.V. releases. Over time, cork seems to given the 1996 an especially relaxed, resonant feel. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. Decanter (96)
A library release of around 600 bottles from Philipponnat's oenotheque range. Salty aromas on the nose with fresh almonds - you can smell age and richness but the colour is remarkable, not at all deep gold or brown more bright gold, this smells older than it looks. Lots of pear, ripe and fresh with vanilla, sandalwood, floral scents and softly spiced accents on the nose alongside a faint truffle aroma. The palate is focussed and straight with an iodine, lemon and lime tang in the middle while the edges carry the maturity with smoked meat, cepe, buttery toast, vanilla cream pastry, salt and a touch of exotic fruit. Persistent, intense, complex, rich and so intriguing - a real ride of flavour and texture. The 1999 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses L.V. is stunning. A Champagne of soaring intensity and pedigree, the 1999 is simply magnificent. Citrus, marzipan, chamomile, baked apple tart and yellow flowers open effortlessly. The 1999 is a timeless wine. It shows some signs of age and yet remains wonderfully fresh. The 2006 Clos des Goisses Rosé is a deceptively powerful Champagne. Pale in color, as it always is, the 2006 Rosé packs a serious punch. Deep, exquisitely layered and persistent on the palate, the 2006 offers a compelling interplay of power and finesse. The Clos des Goisses Rosé is the same base as the Blanc, with the addition of 9% Pinot vinified with the saignée method (rather than still). In 2009, the Juste Rosé has a bit more body and resonance than normal, which works so well here given that it can be a bit fleeting. Crushed red berries, mint, white pepper and chalk are some of the many aromas and flavors that race through this taut, finely sculpted Rosé from Philipponnat. The 2009 is beautifully done. The 2012 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé is a wild, exotic wine. Kirsch, white pepper, flowers, mint and cranberry lend a gorgeous air of exoticism. As always, the Rosé is light in body gracious and all finesse. The blend is 68% Pinot Noir and 32% Chardonnay. This is the first release made with a blend of what is essentially a Blanc de Noirs base, with the ‘still red’ portion (18%) coming from a saignée. This blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay was disgorged in March 2024 with 4.5 grams per liter dosage, with only 2,820 bottles produced. The 1996 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses L.V. has reached a glorious peak of expression. Apricot, burnt sugar, spice, pastry, hazelnut and a whole range of reductive notes that have developed in bottle fill out the layers. In 1996, Clos des Goisses was still aged on cork (for both the original and L.V. releases. Over time, cork seems to given the 1996 an especially relaxed, resonant feel. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. A library release of around 600 bottles from Philipponnat's oenotheque range. Salty aromas on the nose with fresh almonds - you can smell age and richness but the colour is remarkable, not at all deep gold or brown more bright gold, this smells older than it looks. Lots of pear, ripe and fresh with vanilla, sandalwood, floral scents and softly spiced accents on the nose alongside a faint truffle aroma. The palate is focussed and straight with an iodine, lemon and lime tang in the middle while the edges carry the maturity with smoked meat, cepe, buttery toast, vanilla cream pastry, salt and a touch of exotic fruit. Persistent, intense, complex, rich and so intriguing - a real ride of flavour and texture. A wonderful treat to taste a historic vintage direct from the estate and to be able to compare it to the initial release if you have any. Dosage 4.25g/l.In Bond£410.00 -

Citrus, marzipan, chamomile, baked apple tart and yellow flowers open effortlessly. The 1999 is a timeless wine. It shows some signs of age and yet remains wonderfully fresh.
