Vinous (96)The 2004 Barolo Cappella di Santo Stefano is drop-dead gorgeous. The wine reveals notable clarity in its translucent, violet-hued color. Vibrant dark cherries, tar, smoke, sweet herbs and toasted oak sweep across the palate in a stunning expression of Nebbiolo and the high-altitude Perno vineyard in Monforte. This wine is all about precision, delineation and striking balance. The oak is beautifully integrated and the tannins convey an impression of vitality and poise. This is an emotional, breathtaking Barolo of the highest level. |

Wine Advocate (93+)The 1999 Barolo Riserva Vigna Madonna Assunta La Villa is the first wine to come from this parcel in the Castelletto vineyard in Monforte. This Barolo is impressive for the sheer depth and luxuriousness of its fruit. Still incredibly primary, the wine remains quite backward although the French oak has begun to integrate. Still, I am not fully convinced about the decision to leave the wine in oak for an extended period, as the aromas aren’t quite as defined and well-articulated as is normally the case here. Time will be the ultimate judge, however. This Barolo spent 4 years in barrique, followed by a year in cask and five years in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2024. |

Vinous (95)The estate's 2004 Barolo Vigna d'la Roul combines the elegance of the Santo Stefano with the more fruit- driven style of the Big 'd Big. A massive, powerful Barolo, the Vigna d'La Roul gradually unfurls on the palate, revealing tons of sweet, ripe fruit woven into notes of toasted oak, spices, leather, tar, menthol and minerals with remarkable purity. The tannins remain big, powerful and in need of time. It is likely to be the last of these 2004 Barolos to reach maturity. This is another terrific effort from Rodolfo Migliorini, |

Wine Advocate (93+)The 2008 Barolo Vigna d’la Roul emerges from the glass with freshly cut roses, spices, dark red cherries, mocha and menthol. This is another 2008 Barolo with terrific richness and gorgeous mid-palate pliancy. With time in the glass, the wine shows off its considerable volume and sheer textural depth. Floral notes appear on the finish, adding lift and brightness. The oak is a bit pronounced, but this wine has a track record of developing very well in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028. |
