    Rossignol-Trapet

Created through the marriage of Jacques Rossignol and Mado Trapet, since 1990 the estate has been managed by sons Nicolas and David who quickly moved it to biodynamic farming. Their technique of only racking when necessary produces wines that clearly express their excellent Gevrey-Chambertin vineyards.

    2016

    Rossignol Trapet Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2016 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (97)

The 2016 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very well defined bouquet with ebullient red plum, cranberry and earthy aromas, very well defined and focused. The oak is wonderfully integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, vivid red berry fruit and captivating mineralité. You can really feel the limestone soils percolating through the structure of this wine. Pure class. Très Ruchottes. Chapeau! Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.

    2020

    Rossignol-Trapet Beaune 1er Cru Les Teurons 2020 (6x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-93)

No deeper in colour than the village Beaune. Deep ripe cherry and raspberry but I find better balanced than in the Mariages. Delicious on the palate, a well-managed ripeness, certainly with the requisite acidity behind and a little youthful astringency. Generous mouthfilling fruit carries through to a long finish. Tasted: November 2021

    2013

    Rossignol-Trapet Chambertin Grand Cru 2013 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (92)

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Chambertin Grand Cru is deeper in color than its peers. There is a slight reduction here but underneath lies some very fine raspberry and black plum fruit, though it needs to demonstrate more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannin and then it seems to run out of ideas towards the finish and finishes a little uninspired. Hmm ... this is a Chambertin outclassed by some of Rossignol-Trapet's less revered crus at the moment. Though it remains a very fine 2013, it falls short of how I expected it to perform given its splendid showing in barrel. Tasted September 2016.

    2020

    Rossignol-Trapet Chambertin Grand Cru 2020 (12x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-99)

A brilliant beautiful glowing mid purple. The bouquet is hauntingly fine and there is such a wave of beautiful ripe fruit with a highlighted floral note. Absolutely not a massive wine but wonderfully nuanced and impeccably balanced. The fine-grained tannins scarcely poke their noses above the parapet and the acidity adds definition while being entirely folded into the fruit. Nicolas knows that they have made a great Chambertin this year. Light menthol at the finish. Tasted: November 2021

    2013

    Rossignol-Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2013 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (87)

Healthy dark red. Raspberry, flowers and earth on the nose, plus a touch of oaky sweetness. Juicy, penetrating wine, with a restrained sweetness countered by a peppery aspect. On the lean, slightly green side but shows good intensity to the flavors of red cherry and flowers. Finishes with slightly dry-edged tannins.

    Rossignol-Trapet Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92-94)

The 2017 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, matures in around 50% new oak, has a well-defined bouquet with scents of Earl Grey infusing the dark berry fruit (darker than Rossignol-Trapet’s Premier Crus for example.) The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry, slightly tertiary in style with subtle torrefaction notes, but well balanced with impressive substance on the finish, a tingle of white pepper on the aftertaste. Like many of the domaine’s 2017s, this just feels very natural and refined. Excellent.

    Rossignol-Trapet Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru 2018 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (94+)

The 2018 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has an outstanding bouquet of vibrant black cherry and boysenberry fruit suffused with minerals. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit on the entry, maybe just a little closed after bottling at the moment, but demonstrating good grip and a strong marine influence on the finish. Give this 3–4 years in bottle.
