    About Vietti

A stalwart of Barolo, Vietti is often mentioned in the same breath as other great Barolo producers like Elio Grasso and Aldo Conterno. Formerly a family farm, Patriarch Mario Vietti started bottling wines on his own in 1919. It is from here that they began to export exquisite wines from mighty cru Barolo to the excellent value Barbara d'Alba to the joyously sweet and light Moscato d'Asti.

Vietti is also a pioneer in the region. During a time when blending grapes from different vineyards was the prevalent practice, Vietti was also amongst some of the first to champion single-vineyard bottlings, drawing inspiration from the climats of Burgundy.

Each bottle of Vietti wine is truly unique. Since 1974, each label has been designed and signed by artists to reflect the character of the vintage.

    • Vietti Barbaresco Masseria 2012 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (93)

Sweet red cherries, tobacco, mint, spices and new leather flesh out in Vietti's 2012 Barbaresco Masseria. Open-knit, silky and gracious, the 2012 is already quite expressive, yet also has enough depth to drink well for a number of years. So many 2012 Barbarescos are a bit forward, but Vietti's 2012 stands out for its freshness. Drink this super-elegant, refined Barbaresco over the next 15-20 years.

    • Vietti Barbaresco Masseria 2014 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (94+)

The 2014 Barbaresco Masseria is superb. Dark, ample and structured, the 2014 captures all the pedigree of this important Barbaresco vintage. As always, the Vietti's Masseria is a wine that has Barolo-like structure and depth, partly because it is vinified and aged pretty much along the same lines as those wines. I expect the 2014 will require at least a handful of years to shed some tannin and start showing some of its inherent inner sweetness. There is so much to look forward to. Bright acids and a firm spine of tannin give the red-toned fruit energy and vivacity throughout.

    • Vietti Barbaresco Masseria 2015 (1x150cl)

      Wine Advocate (94+)

The 2015 Barbaresco Masseria shows nice, delicate fiber and a silkiness that marks this rendition as one of the most subtle and refined in recent memory. It's a much more elegant approach than 2010, for example, another hot July and August growing season that produced very different results, perhaps with more rigidity at the back. Serve this softer wine from 2015 with some blue cheese or Gorgonzola. The team at Vietti has gained access to more fruit in Barbaresco, including acquisitions in 2018 of 2.5 hectares in Roncaglie and 8,000 square meters of vines in Rabajà. Masseria is a fantasy name, but it technically is the informal name of part of the Cottà cru in Neive.

    • Vietti Barbaresco Masseria 2016 (1x150cl)

      Vinous (97)

The 2016 Barbaresco Masseria is without question one of the wines of the vintage. Powerful and explosive with stunning lift, the 2016 is just gorgeous. Dried flowers, mint, blood orange, red cherry and chalk infuse the 2016 with striking layers of nuance, but it is the wine's balance and total sense of harmony that leave the deepest impression. Vivid, powerful and wonderfully alive in the glass, the Masseria will thrill readers lucky enough to own it. The 2016 is such a stunning wine. The Masseria is a blend of several sites built around a core of fruit from Giaccone, in Treiso, along with Pora and Faset, both in Barbaresco. All I can say is: Wow!

    • Vietti Barbaresco Masseria 2017 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (95)

The 2017 Barbaresco Masseria is a dark, luscious wine that very clearly captures the best the vintage has to offer. Deep and beguiling, but with relatively soft contours, Vietti's 2017 shows the more virile side of Barbaresco in its distinctly Barolo-leaning structure. Black cherry, plum, lavender, menthol, spice and licorice saturate the palate. I have said it before, but it bears repeating, the Masseria is the most under the radar wine at Vietti today.

The 2018 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Vecchia Scarrone has an extra kick of darkness, structure and overall gravitas than the regular Scarrone bottling, if that term can even be used. Scorched earth, licorice, black cherry, plum and menthol infuse the 2018 with serious depth. I would cellar the 2018 for at least a few years. • Vietti Barolo Brunate 2013 (3x75cl)

      Vinous (96)

Vietti's 2013 Barolo Brunate is one of the most reticent, powerful and explosive wines in the range. Huge beams of tannin give the wine its energy and overall shape. Readers will have to be especially patient with the 2013, as it is built for the long haul. As...in the very long haul. The gravitas and overall muscularity of Brunate is quite evident, but the wine remains raw, powerful and in need of significant bottle age. Today, the tannins are searing, which adds to the wine's brooding personality. This is the first vintage that includes old-vine fruit that used to go to Oberto and Marengo from a parcel Vietti acquired a few years ago.

    • Vietti Barolo Brunate 2015 (1x150cl)

      Wine Advocate (95)

The Barolo Brunate was not made in 2014 because of hail damage. Instead, all the fruit was diverted to the Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco instead. This newest release, the 2015 Barolo Brunate, definitely makes up for the lost ground. This is an explosive and absolutely exuberant expression of Nebbiolo from a vineyard site in La Morra near M. Marengo’s property. Vietti farms two parcels here, a higher side of the vineyard and a lower one (near Damilano and Ceretto). These lower parts of Brunate perform very nicely in the cooler vintages. Instead, this warm vintage expression puts a lot of its fruit depth and personality upfront in a confident and no-fuss manner. You absolutely know what you are getting here, even at the first sniff of the bouquet. The wine proceeds to open and blossom before your nose, offering dark fruit, rose, spice and a very linear mineral tone at the back. That linear flinty note is just terrific. Some 3,600 were produced.

      Vinous (98)

The 2016 Barolo Brunate is a powerful, vertical wine endowed with tremendous explosive energy and intensity. Crushed flowers, mint, spice and dried flowers open up in the glass, but it is the wine's energy that really elevates it into the stratosphere. In the glass, the 2016 is dark, somber and full of the sepia-toned nuances that are such signatures of this great Barolo vineyard. This is the first vintage that includes Vietti's newest parcel in Brunate. Perhaps more importantly, though, the 2016 is the first vintage in which French oak is minimal. This is a stunning vintage for the Brunate.

    • Vietti Barolo Brunate 2016 (3x75cl)

Sourced from an average of 54-year-old vines in Brunate of La Morra, the 2017 Barolo Brunate was aged for 32 months in large oak cask and barriques. Vinous (94)

The 2018 Barolo Brunate is a deep, layered wine that is going to need at least a few years to come together. Today, the Brunate is quite primary and backward, but all the ingredients are there. Sage, menthol, licorice, dried flowers and spice build with a bit of coaxing.

    • Vietti Barolo Brunate 2019 (1x150cl)

      Vinous (98)

The 2019 Barolo Brunate is a powerhouse. Black cherry, plum, spice, lavender, mocha, gravel and scorched earth all build as this virile, potent Barolo struts its stuff. The Brunate is another super-impressive wine in this range. To be perfectly honest, the Brunate has never been one of my favorite wines here, but the 2019 is undeniably great. Perhaps the combination of parcels Vietti has today explains the multi-dimensional vibrancy that comes through. This is simply magnificent.
