Jeb Dunnuck (100)
One of the finest Napa Valley wines to pass my lips, the 2018 Thorevilos offers an incredible level of purity, concentration, and balance. Revealing plenty of creme de cassis, white flowers, spicy oak, and tobacco-like aromas and flavors, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a multi-dimensional texture, ultra-fine tannins, and a great, great finish. Coming from a site just outside St. Helena and mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (with a good chunk of Cabernet Franc), this is pure perfection in red wine. Although it can be drunk today, it really needs to be forgotten for 4-5 years, but it's going to cruise for 30, 40, if not 50 years.Inc. VAT£2,081.99 -

The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Terroirs Grand Cru is unusual in that it is a blend of three vintages (2021, 2020 and 2019) instead of the more typical two, because of very low yields in 2021. There's real density and power here, but not at the expense of Côtes des Blancs citrus, floral and mineral character. As always, the Terroirs is a blend of parcels in Avize, Oger, Cramant and Oiry, all Grand Crus. The blend is 20% 2021 and 80% split between 2020 and 2019. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: March 2025; multiple disgorgements throughout the year.Inc. VAT£349.84 -

The 2016 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Avizoise derives from lieux-dits Les Robarts and Les Gros Yeux in Avize, two sites that are characterized by deeper clays than those in the parcels that inform Minéral. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of apple blossom, citrus zest, confit orange, freshly baked bread and warm biscuits, it's full-bodied, satiny and layered, with terrific concentration, racy acids and a long, penetrating finish. This concentrated, vinous, chiseled Champagne is a remarkable wine!Inc. VAT£1,220.66 -
James Suckling (96)
Sharp and focused with very fine bubbles. Precise. Lots of almonds, lemon peel, crushed stones, white pepper and apricot stones, as well as white pears. This has captured so much energy, with a long and refined finish. 100% chardonnay. 3g/L dosage. Disgorged May 2022. Drink or hold.Inc. VAT£747.86 -

The 2015 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Vénus Grand Cru is sublime. Lemon confit, menthol, dried herbs and white pepper all meld together in the glass. More of a wine than Champagne, the Vénus is creamy and open-knit, with lovely freshness and plenty of character. No dosage. Disgorged: May, 2021.Inc. VAT£1,244.66 -

From old vines in lieu-dit La Fosse that are planted at somewhat lower density (1.2 meters apart) but where there are consequently very few missing vines or replants, Agrapart's striking 2016 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vénus unwinds in the glass with scents of citrus oil, crisp stone fruit, toasted almonds, warm biscuits, orange zest and iodine. Full-bodied, concentrated and tightly wound, with terrific depth at the core, racy acids and a long, intensely saline finish, it's another brilliant wine from this benchmark grower-bottler.Inc. VAT£1,580.66 -

Slightly the deepest in colour and the richest nose of the four premier crus. Some lemon notes and light plum, then white fruit. This has the most assured texture of the four. Good grip, as Clive Coates would have said, stretching out very nicely in a fine long finish.Inc. VAT£621.49 -
Jancis Robinson (17)
Cask sample. Top-quality premier cru Puligny. Concentration and power on the nose/palate. Savoury edge, plenty of citrus keeping the palate fresh. Should age very well. Stony finish with an intriguing zesty character. GV.Inc. VAT£956.20 -

Decanter (96)
Vines with an average age of 60 years from lieux-dits Combe, Patou, La Côte, Les Mazards and Chaillot provide the fruit for this Cornas. It spends 20 months in barriques, around 20% new. There are multiple layers to the aromatic palate: rosemary, thyme, herbal bitters, blackberry, blackcurrant and loganberry. A medium-bodied, concentrated but unforced wine with no excessive extraction, a subtly spiced finish and sinewy, brushed tannins. Detailed, focussed, structured and textural, this is captivating and true to its terroir.Inc. VAT£575.98 -
Savour the unequivocal French refinement of Albert Bichot Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons 2017. Produced in the grandeur of Burgundy, this harmonious blend by renowned estate Albert Bichot is denser than most Chablis, granting it rich, irresistible allure. The 2017 vintage was meticulously hand-harvested, maintaining the wine's absolute integrity. Grapes were vinified in traditional oak barrels for 10 to 12 months to accentuate the naturally complex minerality.
Albert Bichot, steadfast in viticulture since 1350, ensures utter magnificence by adhering to sustainable agricultural methods, centring authenticity in every bottle. This award-winning producer has once again crafted an enchanting offering capturing a multitude of fresh and citric flavours, dominated by green apple and lemon, undercut by subtle flinty notes and a trace of salinity. Albert Bichot Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons 2017 distinctly transcends the ordinary Chablis, promising an unforgettable tasting experience and showing profound ageing potential.

The 2016 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru was picked on 28 September, includes 30% whole bunch fruit and matured in 40% new oak. It has a clean, fresh and vibrant bouquet with red cherry, cranberry leaf and fine mineralité coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, impressive depth, quite saline in the mouth with a pinch of spice/black pepper toward the finish. This is a well-crafted Clos de la Roche that should age with style.Inc. VAT£1,030.32 -

The 2021 Chablis Vaucoupin 1er Cru has a primal, grapefruit and lemon thyme scented nose that feels a bit strict. The palate is well balanced with a sapid entry, though it needs more grip and substance on the finish. Fine, but early-drinking. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis.Inc. VAT£228.80 -
Decanter (93)
Domaine Long-Depaquit is the Chablis arm of the Bichot family. Vaucoupin is one of their signatures and in 2022 it shows a great combination of sun-ripened peach fruit on the palate, balanced by zesty acidity and a hint of white pepper. Lovely purity here. Manages to be both powerful and elegant at the same time. Already drinking nicely, this has the concentration to age very well.Inc. VAT£237.49 -
Vinous (90-92)
Very pure but restrained nose offers scents of white peach, lemon oil, spearmint and powdered stone, plus a hint of spices. Deeper and richer than the Blanchots but not showing quite as much personality or definition today. Less detailed but ultimately a broader-shouldered, larger-scaled wine, and less evolved today.Inc. VAT£471.49 -
Vinous (92-94)
The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is very airy, weightless and lifted. The 35% new oak is not especially evident. The 2018 shows real finesse and aromatic intrigue. Citrus, white flowers, chalk, white orchard fruit, white pepper and mint come together in a very pretty and gracious wine with a long, persistent finish.Inc. VAT£528.80 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94)
Fullish yellow. The complex nose shows the power of the vintage, a few drier tannins behind, fair acidity. I think the Clos character is there, but it is reticent today. The palate does deliver detail and layers of fruit though. The finish does also suggest the necessary class. Really good length here.Inc. VAT£422.29 -
Burghound (93)
Here too the nose is cool, airy and restrained with its combination of oyster shell, floral, quinine and green apple aromas that are trimmed in enough oak influence to merit pointing out. There is equally good refinement though not the same mid-palate density to the beautifully detailed and even drier finale. I like both the style and the balance, and this should amply repay extended keeping.Inc. VAT£427.09 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (92)
The 2021 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru has a bit of reduction on the nose, although it conveys energy and seems well defined. The palate is fresh on the entry with a keen line of acidity. There is a veneer of oak but it is proportional to the fruit, rendering the finish balanced and focused with a dab of stem ginger on the aftertaste. This has certainly improved since I tasted it blind a couple of years ago. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.Inc. VAT£432.80 -

"A lifted nose of ripe citrus with almonds and brioche that is extremely open and inviting. The palate treads the line between richness and refreshment perfectly. Round & generous fruit with a decent slug of dosage is balanced out with a super-fresh finish and spray of mineral at the last. 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay here meaning this Blanc de Blancs really over-delivers at the price point. An excellent house pour. " - Will Trotman, Head of UK SalesInc. VAT£217.84 -

The 2016 Barolo Capalot Vecchie Viti is dark, beguiling and very pretty. Rose petal, orange peel, cinnamon, kirsch, sweet red cherry and sweet pipe tobacco give the Capalot striking aromatic nuance and a real sense of exoticism that is quite inviting. Medium in body and constantly changing in the glass, the Capalot captures all of the complexities that make Nebbiolo and Barolo so fascinating. The tannins need time to soften, but there is plenty to look forward to once that happens.Inc. VAT£153.47 -

The 2017 Barolo Capalot Vecchie Viti is another fabulous wine from Burzi. Dark, mysterious and beautifully layered in the glass, the Capalot is just captivating from the very first taste. With fruit from a half-hectare south-facing parcel in Neive, the 2021 Barbaresco Cottà is not as immediately floral or fragrant as the village Barbaresco presented this year by Albino Rocca. This wine opens at a slower pace to reveal dark cherry fruit, candied orange peel and smoky licorice. It's a slow-moving Barbaresco that continues to show more depth and interesting angles the longer it stays in the glass. This bottle registers the highest alcohol content (at 15%) of the three single-vineyard expressions presented this year. Only 2,300 bottles were made.Inc. VAT£444.80
