Burgundy 2022 En Primeur: Blue Skies Over Beaune, Verdant Vines In Vosne
After the unusually cold and small-yielding 2021, the 2022 vintage swung back to what we might consider the “new norm”. With an overall abundance of warmth and sunshine, timely rainfall in June and August helped to balance out any effects of the heat. Early impressions tell a story of wines in general produced with more richness and concentration than their predecessors, with the best of them retaining all important freshness and disarming equilibrium.
Jasper Morris is the first critic to release the 2022 vintage report. He praised the vintage as "bountiful and beautiful" and recommends collectors to consider cellaring the wines.
"Vintages that came to mind were 1985 for the health of the grapes, 1999 for the size of the crop and the relative consistency of quality though with a bias towards the Côte de Beaune, and 2002 – just short of top flight but a really lovely flavour profile of medium density and longevity." Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
"All other things being equal, I would recommend going large in 2022, large in the sense of a broad range because there are so many really good wines at all levels." Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

From the esteemed house of Rapet Pere & Fils, comes the majestic and indulgent Rapet Pere & Fils Corton Grand Cru 2022. A harmonious blend of vines aged 20 to 50 years, sculpted to perfection in the sun-drenched slopes of Aloxe-Corton in Burgundy, France, this wine exemplifies the grandeur of its Grand Cru status. Carefully crafted, each grape is diligently hand-picked, and the wine undergoes traditional open vat fermentation, aged meticulously in oak barrels.
The nose reveals potent black fruit aromas whilst the palate delights in refined tannins, offering an ecstasy of red fruits, laced with earthy undertones, a testament to its terroir. Its long, lingering finish marks the signature of this high pedigree wine. A true product of its illustrious lineage, the Rapet Pere & Fils Corton Grand Cru 2022 is a fine wine catered for a discerning palate seeking a luxurious vinous experience.

40% whole bunch vinification. The lowest degree in alcohol. A good purple colour, but a nose which clearly gives less. There is a fine deep raspberry fruit which absolutely fills the palate, then a fresher finish, after which the fruit returns. Very successful. Tannins on their way to full resolution. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted: November 2023.In Bond£330.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)
40% whole bunch vinification. Dense rich purple. The nose is startlingly fine in rich dark raspberry fruit. Les St-Georges was hailed on which seems just to concentrate the wine. A massive wealth of fruit, drier at the back than the super saturated front, but that will come better into focus by the end of the elevage. Very promising. A light coffee note? Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted: November 2023.In Bond£420.00 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-92)
50% whole bunch vinification. A dense purple, this stands up with a considerable powerful structure, perhaps not the same suavity all the way through, some strawberry notes, white pepper, medium length. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted: November 2023.In Bond£330.00 -

All destemmed as Aux Réas has all the limestone freshness it needs. A dense dark purple, almost black in the centre. A little bit reduced which slightly dries the finish, but that will be sorted. Brilliant fruit between the two plenty of energy, a saline touch behind the dark red fruit. A fine crunchy finish as the wine cleans up in the glass. Drink from 2030-2037. The 2022 Corton-Perrières Grand Cru contains 70% whole bunches this year. It has a perfumed, very floral bouquet with violets and iris flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fresh and slightly chalky in texture. This feels focused and quite persistent on the finish. It is very promising and certainly a step up from the 2021.In Bond£580.00
