Made up from 16 different plots. A pale lemon colour. The nose is undemonstrative but one senses the concentration behind. Indeed, the fruit builds to the back of the palate with a little ripe citrus and correct acidity. Fine length, a little more interest than the very capable Puligny. Drink from 2029-2034. Still on its fine lees. A fine fresh very pale primrose colour. Super discreet nose, just offering some light floral notes at first, but you know there is so much more to come. It is not over exuberant but the fruit comes across the palate in little wavelets, perfectly balanced acidity, the oak subsumed into the intensity of the fruit. The 2022 Marquis de Laguiche Montrachet bows out with a wonderfully long and fine finish. Drink from 2034-2045. Tasted: November 2023.

Vinous - Neal Martin (96-98)

The 2022 Musigny Grand Cru underwent two pickings, August 27 for the declassified younger vines, and September 5. It has a well-defined bouquet with touches of undergrowth infusing the brambly red fruit, graphite and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh, and vibrant with svelte tannins, fine acidity, and an elegant finish. This very refined Musigny will improve with bottle age.

A fuller purple than either Arlot cuvée, which is as normal. The bouquet holds the promise of clean fruit at optimum ripeness, but does not deliver detail at this point. Plenty of energy here, some slightly firmer tannins, correct acidity, and then the more perfumed red berry fruit, slightly more raspberry here, returns at the back. Drink from 2030-2037. A mid crimson colour, slightly deeper than Mont des Oiseaux. Rather more pure red fruit on the bouquet. Fine tension, medium plus bodied, more strawberry than raspberry, with an even fruit through to the finish, where the fine tannins and light acidity are in balance. Drink from 2029-2036. This cuvée no longer contains Clos des Lambrays young vines. The plot called 30 rangs (planted 2000) was in this wine up to 2021. La Riotte and Le Village remain, the 20 ares of Clos Sorbe has been added to new vineyards (see below) from Domaine Cosson, but instead there is fruit from half a hectare of Les Blanchards, also ex Cosson. Glowing purple. A beautifully lifted bouquet with 40% whole bunches, alpine strawberries, all in finesse. Then the wine builds to an extra level of intensity, more than expected from the elegance of the nose, The fruit shows additional nuances as well, entirely red fruit, some ripe cherries now showing as well. Just a few spices to finish.

Some light green reflections in the primrose yellow colour. A stricter nose, perhaps a touch of sulphur. This may also appear more backward coming after the Charmes. Then a vast wealth of fruit on the palate and now we see the real wine. It maintains the herbal note I associate with Genevrières, alongside golden fruit at a perfect degree of ripeness. The fruit and the acidity weave in and out of each other. I would not want the fruit to be riper but it is full of charm as it stands, and kept in place by the precision of the structure. Very fine. Drink from 2029-2037.

Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet has a little softer orchard fruit compared to the Bourgogne, and is very true to its Meursault roots. The white fruit continues on the palate and is now joined by a saline note, while the ripe apples give an immediate appeal. There are little waves of flavour towards the back of the palate. Once again the aftertaste is fine, precise and thoroughly promising. Drink from 2027-2032.

A rich purple in colour. The bouquet does not deliver much as yet but the fruit is so seductive at the front of the palate, though still very unresolved further back with fresher tannins which still need time to integrate.
