The palate is sweet and quite candied on the entry, fleshy but with a fine structure that segues into a spicy, white pepper-tinged finish. Like a mini-Bonnes Mares!

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes has a well-defined bouquet of red and black fruit, cohering in the glass and revealing fine mineralité and tension. The oak is neatly enmeshed. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent, pliant tannins, fleshy and focused with a twist of orange rind towards the lively finish. Just a delicious, vivacious Chambolle in the making here.

The 2022 Saint-Aubin Le Remilly 1er Cru comes from a limestone-rich parcel with touches of pineapple and Clementine, the 30% new oak imparting light frangipane notes. The palate is well-balanced, with a slightly tangy entry and fine acidity. It is fresh and vibrant but needs a little more mineralité on the finish. Otherwise, this is a fine En Remilly.

The 2022 Saint-Aubin Murgers des Dents de Chien 1er Cru has a more complex bouquet than the En Remilly this year, demonstrating a touch more mineralité, crushed stone notes infusing the orchard fruit. Its higher elevation perhaps advantages it. The palate is medium-bodied with a nervous entry, very good raciness here that counterbalance the richness of this Saint-Aubin. The finish has very good weight, and the 30% new oak is neatly integrated. Excellent.

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes 1er Cru is pure and sensual: black cherries, raspberry and light bay leaf scents, almost pastille-like in style with beautifully integrated oak. The medium-bodied palate offers sappy black fruit and gentle but insistent grip with a slightly granular finish. It has a good body, this Chambolle with bit more muscle than its peers. Long-term. Impressive.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)

A light ruby purple. The bouquet is immediate and very seductive, doing its Charmes thing. Roses and red fruit, especially strawberry. Fills the mouth seductively, continuing through to a fine finish, not too much acidity, refined tannins, very agreeable. And excellent persistence. Drink from 2029-2038. Tasted: November 2023.

Burghound (90-93)

This is also aromatically really fresh with its blend of dark raspberry, violet and a crushed fennel aromas. The mouthfeel of the slightly richer flavors is also caressing but here there is a subtle minerality on the lacy, balanced and youthfully austere finale that delivers slightly better persistence. Textbook Chatelots.

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru bides its time unfolding in the glass, eventually revealing earthy red fruit, clove and hints of bergamot. This is very complex, but it is not a flashy Chambolle. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry. It has crisp acidity and is nicely structured with one of the most sapid finishes from the Domaine. This is one of their finest offerings in this vintage.

Vinous (92-94)

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Gruenchers 1er Cru has a spicy bouquet that takes time to cohere in the glass. Dark cherries, pain d'épice and dried flowers unfold in the glass. The palate is perhaps the most marine-influenced of the cuvées. Rather foursquare perhaps: it's tightly wound and slightly conservative towards the finish, yet feels long in the mouth. Very fine…but you must be patient.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-94)

(5 Star Wine) Mid purple. A very stylish perfumed Chambolle fruit of medium plus density. This is quite delicious in the mouth and seems relatively approachable. Raspberries and violets with a fine sense of precision, adequate acidity and very long. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted: November 2023.

Vinous (91-93)

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru comes from two barrels and is aged in 25% new oak. This is much more complex and nuanced on the nose than the Vieilles Vignes: very focused with ebullient red fruit laced with violet. The palate is medium-bodied with good density on the entry. It's quite structured for a Chambolle with some firm tannins on the finish, but sufficient fruit keeps it balanced and poised.

Vinous (93-95)

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru is more transparent and mineral-driven than the Charmes, the limestone soils flooding through the aromatics, defining them. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit and gentle grip. It’s quite energetic with a tensile finish. Once this fills out during the remainder of its barrel maturation, this will be a great Chambolle.

Vinous (89-91)

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes comes from six parcels from around the appellation. There is a touch of reduction on the nose, dark berry fruit mixed with iris flower and a touch of pencil box. A little introspective at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a candied entry, quite sweet with a lot of sucrosity. Maybe that detracts from its complexity towards the finish, which tapers when you want it to fan out. It's not bad, but it needs to gain some flesh in the coming months.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)

Lovely glowing purple, this is very sensual with an immediate red fruit charm. Very pretty yet with a fresh intensity, redcurrant and raspberry, above all a sense of purity and energy. This will make a beautiful Chambolle. Drink from 2028-2033.

Burghound (90-91)

Outstanding Earthier aromas of plum, violet and anise are trimmed in all but invisible wood. There is fine volume to the rich and velvet-textured middleweight flavors that flash good power on the slightly firmer finale that also displays a touch of rusticity. This built-to-age effort is going to need at least a few years of patience. Like the Fixin, this too is worth checking out.

Cask sample. A touch smoky on the nose. Invitingly stony/mineral aroma. Then this unexpectedly creamy rounded texture and still excellent freshness with a lightly sour aftertaste increasing the freshness.
