The 2022 Beaune Les Cras 1er Cru includes 25% whole clusters, and those really enhance the aromatics, a mixture of red and black fruit and a touch of graphite and loam. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine weight, and a dash of black pepper towards the lingering finish. Wonderful smooth texture here. Worth seeking out.

On the palate, it unravels a symphony of flavours, balanced by firm yet refined tannins. A rich purple in colour. The bouquet does not deliver much as yet but the fruit is so seductive at the front of the palate, though still very unresolved further back with fresher tannins which still need time to integrate. I expect the 2022 Chambertin to have excellent keeping qualities. Drink from 2035-2045+. Tasted: November 2023.

The 2022 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru is much more expressive than the Les Theurons and develops a charming, quite discrete, terroir-driven bouquet with dried rose petals infusing the red fruit. The medium-bodied palate has very finely knit tannins and beautifully integrated oak, delineated and quite poised towards the almost Gevrey-like finish. Bon vin.

The 2022 Beaune Grèves le Clos Blanc 1er Cru follows up its impressive showing last year. There’s wonderful purity on the nose with yellow plum, meringue and wisps of candy floss, yet underneath, you can feel the terroir expression that will come through with time. The palate is very well-balanced with a fine silver bead of acidity. One of the most tensile and energetic of Jadot's whites, with Conference pear and gooseberry popping up on the finish. This will be fascinating to watch age in bottle

An attractive fresh mid purple. I am not finding much on the nose at first, just a nutty note mixed in with the fruit perhaps. The Theurons is well balanced on the palate, a medium density of fruit, rather more structure behind. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted: October 2023.

Vinous - Neal Martin (89-91)

The 2022 Beaune Cras 1er Cru was more reduced than the preceding Beaune Grèves and demands more coaxing: darker fruit and a light marine influence at play, but it will need time. The palate is medium-bodied and more muscular than the Grèves. Impressive depth and grip, quite bold towards the finish if missing the same sense of panache.

A fuller yellow, with a softer nose, almost buttery, rather attractive. This is quite gentle at the front of the palate, gains in weight further behind, with a mix of light acidity and slight youthful bitterness. The Beaune Bressandes Blanc remains a discreet wine but attractive. Drink from 2027-2032. Tasted: October 2023.

A fine crimson colour. The bouquet is immediately appealing showing a distinction not yet apparent in the Chapelle-Chambertin, though that will come. This is the more structured of the two, possibly even a little bit stern, but with a wealth of high-class fruit behind where the refinement begins to show. Drink from 2032-2040+. A glowing crimson purple, the bouquet comes over with striking class. Quite floral in fact, plenty of sunshine in the fruit but here in Pommard the vine resists better and the tannins are very refined. A delicious aftertaste. The vineyard was only replanted in 2016, so congratulations. It is now in pinot fin and that shows. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: October 2023.

The 2022 Beaune Teurons 1er Cru is fully de-stemmed for the first time. This leans more towards red fruit on the nose, though maybe because of the lack of stems, it doesn't quite have the personality or freshness as the Tuvilains. The palate is well-balanced with lively red fruit and good depth, and the 35% new oak neatly integrated with fine depth on the finish. I feel it will improve with time in bottle.

A solid dense ruby colour with a powerful bouquet driven by both the intensity of the fruit and the new oak, one barrel of the two, and no stems. There is a lot of wine here in its solid earthy Pommard style, yet with class too. Excellent length, and so much fruit that it can eat up its oak easily. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted: December 2023.

An intense bright fresh purple. Quite punchy on the nose, in a good way, and with a certain amount of oak showing on the palate. Good acidity, more than tannins, and a fresh vigorous red berry fruit throughout.

Decanter (95)

There is more depth and structure in the Epenots than in the village wine, but this latter is still approachable and forward, with ripe black plum and mulberry fruit and hints of lavender, menthol, and star anise. The texture is dense, and the tannins are supple but supportive, leading the whole to a pleasantly persistent finish. The grapes are 90% from Grands Epenots and 10% from Petits Epenots; they are fermented as whole clusters and aged in used casks to produce this memorable wine.
