Vinous (93-95)

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has the ripest and most sensual of Magnien's cuvées on the nose, adorned with lush red cherry, raspberry and light fig scents. There's a soupçon of exoticism in situ. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, quite fleshy in the mouth with good grip and density. There is more horsepower even when contrasted against the Ruchottes-Chambertin. Lingers wonderfully on the finish. Excellent.

Burghound (90-93)

(from a .33 ha holding of ~55-year-old vines). This is aromatically quite similar to the Champeaux with perhaps just a bit more elegance. The mid-palate mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is finer still with more minerality as well that adds a sense of lift to the moderately austere finish where the supporting tannins are firm and slightly angular. I like the balance but this will need time to round off the structure

Vinous (90-92)

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from eight parcels from 40 years old to some planted in 1915. Always one of my favorite cuvées from Magnien, this is more defined and energetic than the regular Gevrey, offering Morello cherries, strawberries and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins and a mixture of red and black fruit, supple in texture. It is not a concentrated Gevrey but feels very cohesive towards the finish. Give this puppy a couple of years in bottle.

Vinous (88)

The 2022 Bourgogne Blanc Hautes-Côtes de Nuits is aged in 15% new larger 450-liter oak barrels. It has a light nose with yellow plum and touches of ginger, but it needs a little more energy and tension. The palate is better than the nose, lovely and balanced with a slightly honeyed texture. It's not long-term, but it should drink well for the next 3-4 years.

In bottle. A cherry to crimson colour. Fine, pleasing, stylish cherry fruit on the nose, cherry to raspberry on the palate, a little tannin to help the structure, but essentially on the fruit, pure and classy. Drink from 2025-2028.

Attractive mid crimson purple. A little more reserved on the nose yet with swelling fruit across the palate, a little fresh pepper at the finish which just enlivens the wine and adds a mineral touch. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted: November 2023.

Burghound (86-88)

Bright, fresh and airy aromas of both red and dark pinot fruit are trimmed in discreet earth hints. There is good vibrancy to the delicious middleweight flavors that are shaped by fine-grained tannins on the lightly stony and dusty but not really austere finale. To enjoy after a few years of keeping.

Vinous - Neal Martin (91-93)

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Champs Perrières Vieilles Vignes takes time to cohere in the glass, predominantly red fruit here, quite a pronounced saline element. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black cherry fruit, gentle grip, quite peppery in style with a cohesive finish. It just needs a little more persistency.

Outstanding. Moderate reduction renders the nose tough to assess today. Otherwise there is good freshness and tension to the solidly concentrated and delineated medium-bodied flavors that exude a more subtle minerality on the firmly austere but not really rustic finale. Good stuff and worth checking out plus it will age.

One of the lighter wines in colour. A pretty, almost floral bouquet. Nothing sturdy here but it is extremely pleasing. Not full but not weak, not long but with an adequate finish. Just a really pretty wine for spring and early summer. Drink from 2026-2031. Tasted: October 2023.

The palate is beautifully balanced with finely chiseled tannins. Poised yet powerful, it fans effortlessly toward the immensely detailed and beguiling finish. Jadot has stepped up a gear in terms of its Clos Saint-Jacques in recent vintages (for example, the 2019), and this will give the likes of Rousseau and Clair a run for their money.
