Vinous - Neal Martin (91-93)

The 2022 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru is much more expressive than the Les Theurons and develops a charming, quite discrete, terroir-driven bouquet with dried rose petals infusing the red fruit. The medium-bodied palate has very finely knit tannins and beautifully integrated oak, delineated and quite poised towards the almost Gevrey-like finish. Bon vin.

The 2022 Beaune Grèves le Clos Blanc 1er Cru follows up its impressive showing last year. There’s wonderful purity on the nose with yellow plum, meringue and wisps of candy floss, yet underneath, you can feel the terroir expression that will come through with time. The palate is very well-balanced with a fine silver bead of acidity. One of the most tensile and energetic of Jadot's whites, with Conference pear and gooseberry popping up on the finish. This will be fascinating to watch age in bottle

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (88-91)

An attractive fresh mid purple. I am not finding much on the nose at first, just a nutty note mixed in with the fruit perhaps. The Theurons is well balanced on the palate, a medium density of fruit, rather more structure behind. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted: October 2023.

Vinous - Neal Martin (89-91)

The 2022 Beaune Cras 1er Cru was more reduced than the preceding Beaune Grèves and demands more coaxing: darker fruit and a light marine influence at play, but it will need time. The palate is medium-bodied and more muscular than the Grèves. Impressive depth and grip, quite bold towards the finish if missing the same sense of panache.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)

A fuller yellow, with a softer nose, almost buttery, rather attractive. This is quite gentle at the front of the palate, gains in weight further behind, with a mix of light acidity and slight youthful bitterness. The Beaune Bressandes Blanc remains a discreet wine but attractive. Drink from 2027-2032. Tasted: October 2023.

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru absolutely delivers on the nose from the very first sniff: complex mineral-driven red berry fruit, exquisitely defined, takes it up another level from the Lavaux Saint-Jacques. The palate is beautifully balanced with finely chiseled tannins. Poised yet powerful, it fans effortlessly toward the immensely detailed and beguiling finish. Jadot has stepped up a gear in terms of its Clos Saint-Jacques in recent vintages (for example, the 2019), and this will give the likes of Rousseau and Clair a run for their money.

Quite pale in colour, not abnormal for Estournelles. The bouquet is quite delicate but the fruit in the mouth is properly refined. This is a wine that creeps up on you rather than impresses at first sight. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted: October 2023.

The Clos de Malte has a lively ruby colour. The nose is an immediate delight of fresh red fruit, a bit of cherry. Firm structure, acidity, tannins and a little nuttiness, all of which will resolve reasonably quickly in bottle, leaving this entirely delicious fruit to enjoy. Drink from 2026-2030. A pretty mid purple, soft and elegant on the nose. Fills the mouth very well, with a good point of acidity, while staying true to its name of Charmes. Good length here. Drink from 2026-2029. Tasted: October 2023.

Fresh purple colour. 17 barrels worth in all. A middle weight purple, pure clean and lively raspberry fruit, good acidity behind. This is a more accessible style of wine, still with good length, but a little less structure. Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted: October 2023.

Made in a mix of 350 and new 600 litre barrels. Mid lemon yellow. A little toast on the nose, this is stricter than Champ Claude, just a little bit of reduction, good length again. Develops a more concentrated apple note further back on the palate. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted: October 2023.

From Les Hates and Prarons. Mid purple, A greener aspect to the nose, but an extra degree of classy red fruit on the palate, and a better texture at the finish. Good judgement with the degree of whole bunches, I think. Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted: October 2023.

Vinous (90-92)

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur 1er Cru has a fresh, well-defined bouquet with plenty of energy and open, expressive raspberry and redcurrant aromas. The palate is balanced with a slightly savory opening and hints of black pepper. Whilst not powerful, the finish conveys elegance.

Vinous (89-91)

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée Alexandrine has the most floral bouquet of the three tasted from Roy, red fruit commingling with subtle mocha scents and brown spices. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, again, just a tad savory in style, finishing with a dab of spice. This should drink well for several years, possibly more.

Vinous (89-91)

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from 80-year-old vines. Plump red fruit leads the charge on the nose, segueing into an off-dry palate that offers white pepper-dashed strawberry and Morello fruit. Just when I'm getting excited, the finish is a tad drier than anticipated. Hopefully, it will be remedied during its remaining barrel maturation.

Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)

The 2022 Beaune Teurons 1er Cru is fully de-stemmed for the first time. This leans more towards red fruit on the nose, though maybe because of the lack of stems, it doesn't quite have the personality or freshness as the Tuvilains. The palate is well-balanced with lively red fruit and good depth, and the 35% new oak neatly integrated with fine depth on the finish. I feel it will improve with time in bottle.

Another vineyard worked by horse. 40% whole bunch, still in barrel, 75% new wood. Mid crimson purple. A beautiful bouquet, with a headiness brought by the whole bunches. Dark red fruit with floral overtones. The stems give some white pepper as well, an there is a fine elegant finish. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: December 2023.

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has an almost clinical bouquet, citrus fresh with commendable purity. Fully de-stemming this was a good decision as it already has sufficient spice. The palate is medium-bodied with a bit of chocolaty oak sticking out. Hopefully, that will be assimilated with time - I will be cautious at the moment, but it should mature well in bottle.

All the usual suspects make up this wine. 35% whole bunch, 20% new wood, still in barrel. An elegant crimson ruby. The bouquet is light but fine, cherry and alpine strawberry, more density of course than the Bourgogne, very unforced. Not the most intense Gevrey of the vintage, but a fine one. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted: December 2023.

All destemmed, 25% new wood. Rather deeper in colour, ruby purple, with darker fruit on the nose. This has broad shoulders, with some depth to the fruit and more evident tannins, a wine that needs keeping. This one crept above 14% which does give a little heat at the finish. Drink from 2029-2034. Vinous - Neal Martin (87-89)

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin En Pallud is 100% whole bunches with no sulfur added until after malo. It has a fine nose and impressive delineation, though it may be missing a bit of complexity at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky smooth entry. It’s not a deep or powerful wine, a little lactic towards the sweet finish that is just a bit candied for me (maybe a bit of carbonic in the mix?)
