The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Village comes from two parcels, two-thirds from Les Lavières. This fragrant, Vosne-like bouquet offers pretty blueberry and black cherry fruit that seem to blossom in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and incorporates the 30% whole bunches with style. It is very cohesive with a sorbet-fresh, live-wire finish, leaving a dash of residual white pepper to linger in the mouth.

The provenance is Aux Jachées 60%, Chalandins and a smattering of Chaumes 1er Cru, prepared for bottling. 50% whole bunch, 50% new wood. A bright and even purple. The new wood integrates very well, with an impressive depth. This is work in progress that promises very well. A good weight of fruit and a high-class finish that persists properly. The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Thorey 1er Cru, which has just been bottled, has a feisty bouquet with macerated red cherries, black currant and light violet aromas borrowed from over the boundary in Vosne-Romanée. The well-balanced palate has a sorbet-like freshness, candied orange peel interwoven through the mainly black fruit, and a spicy/black pepper-tinged finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle - it is an excellent NSG that may improve with bottle age.

The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Bousselots 1er Cru comes from a parcel located slightly lower down the incline than the Aux Thorey, the vines around 50 years old. It has a well-defined and more composed bouquet with vivacious redcurrant, wild strawberry, and blood orange scents, very focused and energetic. The medium-bodied palate has fine tannins, very precise and pure, with good tension and complexity, and a mineral-rich, complex finish. This may be the best Nuit Saint-Georges I have tasted from Legros. Highly recommended.

The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Perrières 1er Cru has a very harmonious bouquet, seductive with slightly richer Morello cherries, wild strawberries and raspberry fruit, just a touch of sous-bois manifesting with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a riper entry than Legros's other cuvées. It has moderate weight, tapering slightly towards the finish when you want it to fan out (like the Bousselots). There’s fine mineralité though I feel it will have more to offer with bottle age.

Burghound (89-91)

(from parcels located in Croix Blanche, La Columbière, Champs Goudins and Le Pré de la Folie). A spicier and more floral-inflected nose displays fruit that is more from the red side of the spectrum. The sleeker and finer, but not denser, medium weight flavors possess notably better depth and persistence on the markedly firmer finale.

40% new wood, December bottling. Far from the deepest in colour, but definitely not the least elegant either! Rose petals abound. A few fresh alpine strawberries too. This has remarkable tension on the palate and is almost as nuanced as an Echezeaux (at least as, Jean-Pierre thinks!). Certainly there is a gorgeous, almost glossy aftertaste. Highest pH. The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets-Saint-Georges 1er Cru had been racked the previous week, but it was essentially the final wine I tasted as it was just about to be bottled. It has a stricter and more backward bouquet than the Chênes Carteaux: blackberry and wild strawberry fruit, the 20% new oak neatly folded in. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, leaning more towards black fruit laced with tar and tobacco. Quite Morey-like towards the finish with impressive persistence. Give this two or three years in bottle to shave the edges. Very fine.

Still in barrel. An intense deep purple. A little wood alongside the relatively heady fruit. Quite ripe, super succulent, plenty of plums, yet with some mineral tannins at the back which require longer elevage. The tannins are on the firmer side. Drink from 2031-2038. Tasted: November 2023.

The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a very complex bouquet, a mix of red and black fruit, crushed flowers, and hints of spice coming through with aeration. This seems to "grow" in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with silky smooth tannins. It’s very pure, so pure that it almost disguises the backbone of this Les Saint-Georges, gaining depth towards the finish with touches of pain d'épice and white pepper. An excellent NSG that will repay cellaring.
