Vinous - Neal Martin (91-93)

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has an almost clinical bouquet, citrus fresh with commendable purity. Fully de-stemming this was a good decision as it already has sufficient spice. The palate is medium-bodied with a bit of chocolaty oak sticking out. Hopefully, that will be assimilated with time - I will be cautious at the moment, but it should mature well in bottle.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)

All the usual suspects make up this wine. 35% whole bunch, 20% new wood, still in barrel. An elegant crimson ruby. The bouquet is light but fine, cherry and alpine strawberry, more density of course than the Bourgogne, very unforced. Not the most intense Gevrey of the vintage, but a fine one. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted: December 2023.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (89-92)

All destemmed, 25% new wood. Rather deeper in colour, ruby purple, with darker fruit on the nose. This has broad shoulders, with some depth to the fruit and more evident tannins, a wine that needs keeping. This one crept above 14% which does give a little heat at the finish. Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted: December 2023.

Vinous - Neal Martin (87-89)

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin En Pallud is 100% whole bunches with no sulfur added until after malo. It has a fine nose and impressive delineation, though it may be missing a bit of complexity at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky smooth entry. It’s not a deep or powerful wine, a little lactic towards the sweet finish that is just a bit candied for me (maybe a bit of carbonic in the mix?)

90% is from the Pernand. Side, a third old vines, a third 20 year old, a third 35 year old. And guess what, the youngest are in the worst condition. Some tressed, some worked by winch. Pale colour, a beautifully mineral nose, properly shows its terroir. The wine picks up speed further back on the palate, opening out very nicely. Very attractive. Drink from 2029-2037. Tasted: October 2023.

A light to medium crimson. The bouquet is exquisite, very classy, fully ripe thus becoming almost floral, but not falling over into excess. A good crisp acid balance, and just a little blood orange. Refined, complex Gevrey. Drink from 2028-2034.

Burghound (89-92)

(from the Brochon side). Exceptionally fresh if somber aromas include those of various red berries, newly turned earth and a touch of sauvage character. There is both fine richness and evident minerality suffusing the powerful middleweight flavors that are more firmly structured on the youthfully austere finale. This too is very good for its level though note that it’s clearly built-to-age

Vinous (90-92)

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet, floral like the Vieilles Vignes, with scents of redcurrant, cranberry and sous-bois. However, there is much better delineation here, whilst the palate is cohesive and delineated. Taut and sapid towards the finish, this finely-made Lavaux Saint-Jacques should offer a decade's worth of drinking fulfillment.

Vinous (91)

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru, which was bottled at the end of November, is a step-up from the Champerrier, with pretty brambly red fruit, sous-bois and light rose petal scents. The palate is medium-bodied, crisp and pure, with pliant tannins. There is palpable Pinoté here and a brisk, mineral-driven finish. This is worth seeking out. Tasted at merchants' 2022 Burgundy tastings in London.
