Burgundy 2022 En Primeur: Blue Skies Over Beaune, Verdant Vines In Vosne
After the unusually cold and small-yielding 2021, the 2022 vintage swung back to what we might consider the “new norm”. With an overall abundance of warmth and sunshine, timely rainfall in June and August helped to balance out any effects of the heat. Early impressions tell a story of wines in general produced with more richness and concentration than their predecessors, with the best of them retaining all important freshness and disarming equilibrium.
Jasper Morris is the first critic to release the 2022 vintage report. He praised the vintage as "bountiful and beautiful" and recommends collectors to consider cellaring the wines.
"Vintages that came to mind were 1985 for the health of the grapes, 1999 for the size of the crop and the relative consistency of quality though with a bias towards the Côte de Beaune, and 2002 – just short of top flight but a really lovely flavour profile of medium density and longevity." The palate is very well-balanced, with a slightly honeyed opening. It’s one of the richer cuvées by taste, though analytically, it has very good acidity and 13% alcohol. Fans out wonderfully on the finish. Excellent. |

It will require a couple of years to absorb the wood. The palate is well-balanced with a subtle walnut note on the entry, quite linear in style, with stem ginger veins towards the finish. Impressive length, this should give over a decade's worth of drinking pleasure. |

This is relatively primal on the nose, yet to reveal its personality. Yet, there is plenty of concentration here with an underlying sense of tension. The palate is well-balanced, but as expected, it is oaky at the moment, and it will require 4-5 years to subsume that wood fully. I'll be cautious for the moment. |

A few fresh alpine strawberries too. This has remarkable tension on the palate and is almost as nuanced as an Echezeaux (at least as, Jean-Pierre thinks!).
