Wine Advocate (91-93)The 2015 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Le Charmois was aged in 20% new oak without any foudres. It has a slightly more involving bouquet compared to the Saint Aubin La Combe, with notes of green apple, sea spray, something saline and perhaps even a distant tang of kelp. The palate is very well balanced with a fine thread of acidity. Focused and beautifully poised, it leaves it to the last moment to fan out and deliver the concentration that the growing season bestowed. It kind of plays with you, but that just makes you love it more. This is superb. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiets was showing very well from bottle, wafting from the glass with notes of raspberry, cherry, spice and orange rind that offer little hint of the savory complexity to come with bottle age. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, structured around juicy acids and a fine-grained but firm chassis of tannins that asserts itself on the finish. Fremiets sits above the Clos des Angles, and its shallower soils tend to issue in wines with notable crunch and tension. |

Wine Advocate (85)The 2015 Bourgogne Rouge has a pleasant crushed strawberry and red cherry nose that is candied in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, just a little coarseness on the finish, but another racking and it will be fine. |

Vinous (91-93)(14% alcohol!): Dark red with ruby tones. Deep, musky scents of black raspberry, smoke and game; very ripe but reserved. Dense, tactile and concentrated, with its raspberry, animal fur, chocolate and saline flavors communicating an impression of strong dry extract. More than enough stuffing here to support the ripe tannins. |

Burghound (95-98)(Don't Miss!) Here too there is enough reduction present to push the underlying fruit to the background. Otherwise there is breathtakingly good concentration to the broad-shouldered, succulent and lavishly rich flavors that also possess an almost haunting inner mouth perfume of spice and floral elements. There is superb power and buckets of dry extract and despite the imposing size and weight this remains refined and immaculately well-balanced on the massively long finale. I was knocked out by the potential this demonstrated but note well that it is a wine to buy and forget as this is going to need 20 to 30 years to reach its full apogee. |

Wine Advocate (96+)Tasted blind, the 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes is utterly superb, unfurling in the glass with a complex bouquet of raw cocoa, rose petal, orange rind and red berries that's already very nuanced. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, multidimensional and incredibly deep, with supple, satiny tannins, juicy acids and considerable concentration. Tasted among its peers, this Clos des Chênes is in a different class and confirms its status as one of a small handful of red wines of the vintage in the Côte de Beaune. It's a profound Volnay that will be incredibly long-lived. |

Vinous (90-92)(vinified with 60% whole clusters): Bright, dark red. Restrained aromas of black cherry and licorice show a slightly medicinal aspect. Fatter than the premier crus but less showy today, conveying an impression of medicinal reserve and little easy early sweetness. This rather backward wine finishes with plush, palate-saturating tannins and a strong repeating licorice quality, but some emerging dryness limited my enthusiasm. |

Vinous (94)Bright, moderately saturated medium red. A touch of reduction to the pure but withdrawn aromas and flavors of wild strawberry, flowers and spices. Bigger, richer and sweeter than the Clos Saint-Denis, showing a captivating sappy ripeness and serious concentration. The wine's rocky minerality really clamps down on the finish, with the horizontal, integrated tannins spreading out to saturate the mouth and front teeth. Quite powerful but an infant today, with all the elements for long-term aging. |

Vinous (93)Bright, full medium red. Very ripe aromas of cherry and strawberry. Then surprisingly sappy and stylish on the palate, displaying lovely finesse of texture without any undue weight. Wonderfully broad and deep for premier cru, but with spicy high notes contributing to the wine's impression of definition and its light touch; there's also an element of medicinal reserve that I did not find in the Millandes. Best today on the very long finish, which features noble, fine-grained tannins and terrific rising perfume. I'm not sure I would have picked this blind as a 2015, in spite of the almost candied ripeness shown by the nose. |

Wine Advocate (94)The 2015 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is a valedictory wine as the 90-year-old vines were pulled up after the fruit was picked (see producer introduction). You know, it actually surpasses the Chevalier-Montrachet in terms of mineralité and complexity, very refined with hints of orange blossom developing with time. The palate is very well balanced with a keen line of acidity, good tension and particular fine salinity here that urges you back for another sip. There is just a barrel and a half of this Bâtard-Montrachet so grab one now because it will not reappear for a long time. |

We found the wines in 2015 very easy and forward to taste, with as much focus on freshness as concentration, so there wasn’t a complete break from the 2014s in that sense. The hope is that as the wines mature they will continue to show the balance and classicism they displayed from the barrel. Our expectation is that they will do so and the best wines will live for a very long time with a genuinely satisfying pattern of maturation throughout their life.
