Silky tannins wrap around a core of ripe red cherry/plum fruit, with pretty floral, hard candy, and spice overtones that develop with a bit of time in the glass. Light straw-yellow. Deep, soil-inflected aromas and flavors of white stone fruits, clove, hazelnut, marzipan, white pepper, smoke and minerals, with a note of orange bitters emerging after extended aeration. Wonderfully rich, silky and mouthfilling but not at all heavy, showing considerable baby fat for young Corton-Charlemagne but with a powerful stony underpinning. Seriously rich, ageworthy wine with a touch of dusty tannins and palate-saturating breadth and salty length. This wine is seriously satisfying right now but should undergo dramatic transformation over the years as it burns off some of its baby fat, which it started to do with 72 hours in the recorked bottle. A star of the vintage, showing no sign of heat or blurriness and communicating a very strong if fully ripe impression of terroir.Inc. VAT£2,680.32 -

(bottled in February of 2017): Deep red-ruby. Very ripe aromas of kirsch, leather, coffee and chocolate; as at so many other addresses, this first sample tasted after Bouchard's range of 2016s struck me as somewhat roasted in its fruit character. Very rich yet sappy, showing the solidity of a very warm year; quite large-scaled (14% alcohol!) for this cuvée, offering highly concentrated flavors of red berries, dark cherry and chocolate. A rather extreme style yet nicely aromatic in the middle palate (Bouchard tries to keep this wine open for restaurants, noted Weber). Finishes with soft tannins and very good length.Inc. VAT£495.84 -

Healthy dark red. Brooding aromas of tart cherry stomp and red licorice; there's something cool and medicinal here that belies the sunny vintage. Wonderfully silky and savory on entry, then densely packed and almost painfully concentrated in the middle, showing a bulletproof quality to its flavors of red berries, minerals and rose petal. The explosive, slowly building finish saturates the palate with salty minerality. Still a total baby, this wine will need to be forgotten in the cellar for a decade. (30% vendange entier): Good dark red with ruby tones. Sexy nose combines black raspberry, smoky minerality, coffee and a whiff of animal fur; smells sweet! Then very ripe and fat in the mouth, with plush, almost syrupy red fruit flavors energized by a note of cherry pit. Still, this wine doesn't offer quite the clarity or lift of the Bouchard vinification. Finishes with serious but ripe tannins. I find this a bit extreme for the year.Inc. VAT£1,290.80 -

The 2015 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has another very pure, elegant bouquet, firmly in red rather than black fruit territory and quite lush and sensual - one of the most seductive you will find this year. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin and perfectly pitched acidity; it feels supple at first, though the second half has a more chalky texture and the red fruit merges with more black fruit. The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin is a soft-open knit wine with mid-weight structure and good overall persistence. This is the only wine in the range I tasted from tank. The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has a gleaming bouquet with transparent red cherry and white-tipped strawberries that contain such brightness and vivacity. There's wonderful mineralité both aromatically and on the palate, where one finds filigree tannins. Irresistibly pure and elegant. Arthur Clair told me that when he made this wine at the beginning of his career, his father, Bruno, quipped that he had made a Rosé, due to its pallid hue. Well, just goes to show!In Bond£1,019.59 -

(25 hectoliters per hectare; this massale selection was harvested at the end, on September 12): Bright medium red, a bit less saturated than the Hauts de Beaux Monts. Very reduced aromas of strawberry and rose petal show a a freshness from this parcel's cooler exposition and combe influence. In a distinctly juicy, penetrating style but still with the silkiness of the vintage. Strawberry and raspberry fruit flavors are extended by pungent mineral and floral elements on the classically dry finish. In a juicy, lighter style but with no shortage of density. In Bond£1,183.00 -

One of the highlights in this range, the 2015 Beaune Les Avaux is sleek and expressive. Sweet red cherry, plum, mint and a kiss of new French oak give the wine its super-appealing, inviting personality. Like so many of these wines, the 2015 captures an incredibly appealing combination of deep, rich fruit and lifted aromatics. In other words, this is a quintessential 2015. - Antonio GalloniIn Bond£373.00 -

Camille Giroud's 2015 Chambertin is seamless, rich and inviting. Dark cherry, crème de cassis, menthol, licorice, sage and lavender give the wine much of its regal aristocratic bearing, There is something absolutely impeccable about the way all the elements fall into place here. The Chambertin is often a rock star in this lineup. Is that again in 2015. - Antonio GalloniIn Bond£2,420.00 -

The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin is a soft-open knit wine with mid-weight structure and good overall persistence. This is the only wine in the range I tasted from tank. Perhaps for that reason, the Charmes is a bit reticent. It will be interesting to see if the wine gains more volume. The decision to move this wine into tank and bottle it early, suggests it may not have the depth of the best wines in the range. - Antonio GalloniIn Bond£782.00 -

The 2015 Clos de Vougeot is an impressive wine. Huge tannins give the 2015 much of its shape and sense of direction. Plum, crème de cassis, chocolate and lavender all develop in the glass. Ample and powerful in construction, the 2015 possesses very good depth, even if it can't match the pedigree of the Chambertin. This is another wine with a late malo. I hope to have a chance to taste it again from bottle. - Antonio GalloniIn Bond£735.00 -

(Tremblay vinified this wine with 70% whole clusters to maintain vivacity): Healthy medium-dark red. Lovely spicy, floral high tones to the dark raspberry and licorice aromas. Dense, sappy and spicy in the mouth, conveying the creamy mid-palate texture of the vintage's better examples with a high pitch that I rarely find in lower-altitude Chambolles in 2015. (Again, the later bottling--in July of this year--appears to have been very constructive for maintaining vivacity.) Finishes with serious breadth, a firm spine of ripe tannins and lingering notes of dark berries, licorice and spices. In Bond£751.55 -

The 2015 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has an understated, pretty, quite mineral-driven bouquet; light rose petal and iris scents develop in the glass. The palate is very well balanced, offering edgy tannin, crisp red fruit (red cherry and cranberry) and an almost symmetrical, live-wire finish that is pure class. Superb - and the plus sign indicates my view that it will improve in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. In Bond£1,626.80
We found the wines in 2015 very easy and forward to taste, with as much focus on freshness as concentration, so there wasn’t a complete break from the 2014s in that sense. The hope is that as the wines mature they will continue to show the balance and classicism they displayed from the barrel. Our expectation is that they will do so and the best wines will live for a very long time with a genuinely satisfying pattern of maturation throughout their life.
