The 2015 Meursault Village is showing very well, unfurling in the glass with notes of crisp yellow orchard fruit, Anjou pear, white flowers, honeycomb and hazelnut cream. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and pure, with beautiful balance, succulent underlying acids and an elegant framing of dry extract that lends a mouthwatering quality to the long, penetrating finish. Without either the strong cooperage or reductive signatures of yesteryear's Coche-Dury, it exemplifies the new stylistic direction taken by Raphaël Coche, and it's a terrific success, surpassing both the 2014 and 2013 renditions.Inc. Broader on the nose than the village Meursault bottlings, offering scents of orange oil, peach, spices, minerals and oak char, plus a whiff of unabsorbed SO2. Dense, fat and concentrated; creamier than the Meursault from Narvaux but not heavy. This wine, too, conveys an impression of power. Finishes classically dry, strong and long, spreading out and vibrating on the back end.Inc. VAT£1,372.64 -

The 2015 Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru, which is a blend of 60% Breterins and 40% Les Bas des Duresses close to Monthélie, had received a bit of SO2 a week before my visit and was due to be transferred into tank for around two months. It contains 10% whole bunch fruit this year and sees 20% new oak. It has a sensual bouquet with black cherries, raspberry and confit fruit all with fine delineation. The tannins here are finer than the village cru as you would expect, the acidity nicely judged (3.4 pH) with a poised and tensile finish that delivers a welcome salinity on the finish. This comes highly recommended and is certainly one of the best 2015s that I have encountered from the appellation.Inc. VAT£117.72 -
This Aligoté is forward, bright and fresh. Very easy to drink and overall satisfying. With a bit more complexity than might be expected this is one of the better values among entry-level whites this year. Worth stocking up on at this price.Inc. VAT£133.46 -

Perfumed, gentle texture, lots to chew on at the end but properly complex and serious. Pretty intense and chiselled. Relatively rich. Gives the impression of great care taken in vineyard and cellar. Long with a peacock's tail on the end. Some liquorice on the end too – most unusual in 2015 burgundy. Very well done.Inc. VAT£575.52 -

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses has a very pure and seductive bouquet with both blood orange and orange rind infusing the black fruit, beautifully focused and with perhaps a greater degree of transparency than many recent vintages. You can feel the terroir here. The palate is underpinned by fine tannin and superb tension. There is a surfeit of energy here, avoiding any heaviness with effortless ease, those Asian spices and a pinch of white pepper enlivening the focused and sophisticated finish. This will equal the two grand crus in the long-term.Inc. VAT£1,336.79 -
(3x75cl) 2015Vinous (90+)
Full red-ruby. A ripe bowl of black cherries, blueberries and spices on the nose. Boasts a penetrating yet restrained sweetness and a superb balance of rich texture and fresh acidity. Superb texture for village wine. The tannins are serious but plush and nicely enrobed by the wine's strong material. Really spreads out horizontally to saturate the palate and build on the finish. I found this wine a tad extreme a year ago but not today.Inc. VAT£902.42 -

The Musigny 2015 could well be a legend in the making. It does offer a unique balance between seductive generosity and a vibrant freshness found in very few vintages. Some have mentioned the 1929 vintage in connection with the 2015s – and while I have tasted very few 1929s – let alone 1929 Musigny – I can somehow relate to this interpretation. The vivacious energy and playful freshness does somehow defy the laws of physics – as it transforms the mulitible layers of rich and juicy fruit to an airy and vibrant wine. The bouquet is an explosion of red and dark fruits .. blueberries, pomegranate and red currant – brought forward by a very intense floral minerality. On the palate very long, intense and perfectly balanced .. the layered mid-palate fruit is exuberantly lavish, silky and energetic -perfectly focused by the very intense and powerful Musigny minerality. A legendary Musigny in the making!Inc. VAT£4,560.72 -
Vinous (95)
The 2015 Echézeaux Grand Cru is slightly darker in color than its peers. There is a fug of reduction on the nose that makes the fruit profile difficult to discern. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, quite masculine and surly in style, although there is impressive substance and grip on the finish. This is in an awkward stage, but I’m convinced it will coalesce and become much more coherent with bottle age. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.Inc. VAT£3,805.32 -
Vinous (91)
Full medium red. Nose dominated by mocha and nutty oak, with some red fruits in the background. Broad and plush, with its fleshy flavors of redcurrant, tobacco and spices complicated by subtle earth tones. This silky, large-scaled Nuits-Saint-Georges finishes with building sweetness, a broad dusting of tannins and a suggestion of strawberry-confit ripeness. This wine came across as darker in fruit character as well as somewhat reduced when I tasted it in late 2016, but today it's quite full-blown and in need of some time in bottle to lose some of its baby fat and gain in mid-palate clarity.Inc. VAT£14,662.87 -
(6x75cl) 2015Burghound (90)
Outstanding. Here there is no reductive funk as the agreeably fresh nose offers up ripe notes of earthy and spicy purple fruit. There is both fine punch and volume to the utterly delicious and lightly mineral-inflected flavors that display traces of warmth and rusticity on the otherwise solidly persistent and complex finish. In 2016 this was more Vosne in style but in 2015 it's clearly a Nuits villages but one with a certain refinement. Excellent and recommended.Inc. VAT£7,824.80 -

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a voluminous, intense, slightly feral bouquet featuring layers of red berry fruit and possibly just a touch of brettanomyces (which for me does not detract from the overall aromatic profile). The well-focused, medium-bodied palate offers supple tannin, a crisp line of acidity and sappy blueberry and wild strawberry scents toward the sleek, silky-smooth finish. Excellent. The 2015 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru is taut and linear, more reticent than the Clos de la Barre at the moment, yet it evolves in the glass and reveals a Perrières-like stoniness. The palate pivots around a silver bead of acidity with citrus peel and nectarine notes, demonstrating greater depth than its peers on the powerful finish. Superb! Pale, bright yellow. Extremely precise aromas of soft citrus fruits, crushed rock and smoky minerality. Enters the mouth silky and thick but lively, showing a seamless texture along with lovely gingery spicy lift. Vinous (91-93)
(on its finings, with a higher level of CO2 due to the fact that its malolactic fermentation finished very late, in tank): A note of musky reduction to the cooler aromas of nectarine, crushed stone and hazelnut. Then surprisingly silky and suave but tight and high-pitched in the mouth, with its stone fruit flavors conveying a distinctly dry impression and solid underlying structure. This sexy but backward wine will benefit from some aeration at the bottling and has the structure to age. This was actually the last premier cru vineyard picked in 2016 because the fruit here ripens later. The vibrant, tongue-dusting finish shows a lightly saline quality.Inc. VAT£482.39 -

Inherited from 16th century aristocrats, the Comtesse de Cherisey carries forward its legacy in the form of this opulent Comtesse de Cherisey Meursault 1er Cru Blagny La Genelotte 2015, grown splendidly in the globally recognised Meursault region of Burgundy, France. Bestowed with divine textures from ancient, low yielding vines and fermented in the traditional Burgundian manner, this white wine is par excellence. Its aroma is delicately graced with fragrant white flowers and ripe pear, while the palate boasts a perfect balance between robust structure and freshness, delivering alluring citrus and creamy butterscotch notes with an enduring minerality on the finish. A discreet use of oak in the ageing process has refined its body and added layers of complexity to this exquisite masterpiece. We found the wines in 2015 very easy and forward to taste, with as much focus on freshness as concentration, so there wasn’t a complete break from the 2014s in that sense. The hope is that as the wines mature they will continue to show the balance and classicism they displayed from the barrel. Our expectation is that they will do so and the best wines will live for a very long time with a genuinely satisfying pattern of maturation throughout their life.
