Vinous (91-93)The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Boudots 1er Cru needed a lot of aeration before it finally graced me with its presence. There is no stem addition in this vintage as there has been in previous years. It has a very well-defined bouquet even though it feels "aloof" at the moment, presenting sous-bois-infused black fruit and traces of iodine. The palate is well balanced with a slightly lactic, licorice-tinged entry. A precocious Les Boudots in the making. There is firm structure, good grip and a countervailing sorbet-like zip on the finish. This has all the components of a very fine Nuits Saint-Georges, but it will require cellaring. |

Decanter (95)Méo's Boudots is striking in its purity of fruit, with pure mulberry aromas and peony, smoke, and earth notes. The texture is silky, yet there is also impressive density and length. The grapes come from a parcel of just over a hectare at the base of the slope. This delicious wine is a model of elegance and finesse that demonstrates the virtues of the Vosne side of the village. Méo relates that he has revolutionized his barrel regime and that almost everything is aged in light toast casks. |

The palate is medium-bodied with a soft entry. More like a 1990 in some ways, but there is fine grip, a little dryness creeping in on the back palate with tobacco notes gathering pace towards the finish. This is certainly commendable given its age. Tasted at the Méo-Camuzet dinner at Arbor in Hong Kong. |
