Vinous (96)The Non-Vintage Cuve 38 from Henriot is another exceptionally rare champagne. Released only in magnum, it was tricky trying to check the disgorgement date, but the cork was branded “0616” inferring June 2016. This réserve perpetuelle, which is to say that it is constantly topped up like a solera, comes from fruit originating from Avize, Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger, Oger and Chouilly. It is named, perhaps a tad unimaginatively, after the tank in which it ages and limited to 1,000 magnums. Very fresh and energetic on the nose, there are hints of citrus lemon and petrichor - vibrant and penetrating. Wine Advocate (94)Derived principally from the 2021 vintage vinified in tank and complemented by 28% of the 2020 harvest matured in oak, the latest release of the NV Blanc de Blancs Le Cotet originates from the lower-lying, chalkier sector of the vineyard in front of Lassaigne's winery, where scarcely 15 centimeters of topsoil overlay the bedrock. True to style, it also incorporates approximately 10% of already-bottled Champagnes that have been disgorged and reintegrated into tank. Disgorged à la volée in July 2025, it bursts from the glass with scents of nashi pear, lemon oil and green apple, mingling with pastry nuances and framed by youthful reduction. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, incisive and precise, with a crystalline core of fruit and ample extract, underpinned by mouthwatering acidity and culminating in a long, saline finish. |
