So fruity! Way more modern and ripe than their Villa Antinori Riserva. Entirely credible and with classic Chianti bite from zingy acid and firm tannin.Inc. VAT£406.84 -

Freshly cut flowers, sweet spices and dark red cherries are all woven together in the 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio. Layered and silky on the palate, the 2011 offers good balance, even if the oak is a bit pronounced. Overall, this is a solid, if not particularly exciting wine. The Gran Selezione designation appears only on the back label, which strikes me as a curious choice.Inc. VAT£406.84 -

The 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is cool, inward and reserved at this stage. Much less expressive than it was from barrel, today the 2010 appears to be in a closed phase. There is so much tension in the glass, though, and I can hardly wait to see where the 2010 goes over the coming years. A burst of mineral and floral infused fruit lingers on the polished, nuanced finish. Today, the 2010 seems to bring together the finesse of 2004 with the structure and power of the 2010. A pretty magical combination, if you ask me.Inc. VAT£778.87 -

The 2010 Chianti Classico boasts striking inner perfume, but is otherswise very shut down. Today, the 2010 seems to combine the finesse of the 2004 with some of the structure of the 2006. Clean veins of 2010 acidity support the brilliant, sensual finish. The 2010 is a gorgeous wine with a bright future, although readers will need to be patient.Inc. VAT£253.24 -

Black stone fruits, smoke, tobacco, incense and sweet spices jump from the glass in the 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo. The 2011 is going to need a few years for the baby fat to melt away. Today the flavors are ripe, dark and resonant, while the tannins are quite silky, but the best is yet to come. Even with all of its richness, the 2011 clocks in with acidity above 6%, which is virtually unheard of for a wine with this much dry extract, but, then again, we are talking about Sangiovese.Inc. The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello Fonterutoli is a standout wine and I prefer it to the 2012 vintage and the 2010 vintage (that I reviewed twice over the course of a year with divergent scores). Of these wines, this vintage offers the broadest sense of intensity and generosity. The wine is also distinguished by dark fruit and spice that stand tall with clear identities. The best fruit from the estate's various vineyard sites are selected for this wine. This careful selection process makes it possible to dedicate the best fruit to a wine like this despite varying vintage conditions.Inc. VAT£440.44 -

The 2011 Chianti Classico is intense, deep, rich and layered, the 2011 graces the palate with concentrated sweet dark fruit. The style is deep exuberant but also nicely balanced. Dark red cherries, plums and smoke all meld together in the supple, inviting finish. Overall, the 2011 is a very pretty wine with plenty to offer, especially in the near term. Dark red cherries, plums, lavender and smoke all meld into the inviting finish.Inc. VAT£83.29
