Vinous (93+)(a hailstorm at the end of May limited the production here to 20 hectoliters per hectare, according to winemaker Gianluca Torrengo): Good deep red. Wild, aromatic nose offers black fruits, sour cherry, licorice, marzipan and spices. Velvety, deep and utterly seamless, but with superb freshness for the year. Impressively primary too. Finishes with firm tannic spine and terrific length. Give this three to five years for the tannins to resolve, suggests Torrengo. |

James Suckling (98)Blackberry, black truffles, red fruits, minerals and flowers. This is superb with a dense and powerful palate of dark fruits and minerals. Goes on for minutes. Tight and racy. Try after 2014. |

Wine Advocate (97)The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is a pure, rapturous beauty. Layers of sweet red fruit meld into rose petals, licorice, spices and mint as the 2007 seduces all of the senses. The ripe, open personality of the year is present, but there is more than enough structure to provide balance. Floral notes reappear on the vibrant, beautifully articulated finish. The 2007 is more than a worthy follow up to the epic 2006. Even better it should drink well quite a bit earlier than that wine. Sadly, there are fewer than 1,000 cases to go around. This is a magical Brunello in every way. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2032. |

Wine Advocate (96)The 2007 Percarlo flows across the palate with tons of depth and richness. It is one of the few Tuscan 2007s that hasn’t been too distorted by the heat of the year. There is plenty of Sangiovese nuance in this large-scaled, voluptuous wine. All the elements are very nicely balanced in the 2007. This isn’t a huge, structured vintage of Percarlo, but in exchange the wine should drink well earlier than some of the more powerful surrounding vintages, namely 2006 and 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. |

Wine Enthusiast (95)This iconic Italian wine from Bolgheri's landmark Sassicaia vineyard (characterized by little rocks, or "sassi") offers an elegant bouquet comprised in equal measure by mineral, fruit and spice nuances. The wine consists of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc and the finish is long, smooth and very fine. This is an ageworthy wine that should not be opened before 2018. |

Vinous (97)The 2007 Solaia (magnum) captures all the exotic richness of the year in its luscious, racy personality. Raspberry jam, spice and white chocolate give the 2007 its decidedly flamboyant feel. There is not much subtlety here, but the 2007 offers tons of immediacy in a flashy style that is hard to resist. It is one of the most enjoyable wines of the night. |

Vinous (95)The estate's Grand Vin, the 2007 Tenuta di Trinoro, is shaping up to be one of the vintage's finest successes. A dark, richly-textured wine, the 2007 Tenuta boasts a seamless core of ripe fruit that flows all the way through to the long finish. This super-ripe, explosive wine offers spectacular density and richness in a full-bodied, immensely rewarding style. Hints of new leather, spices, grilled herbs and minerals linger on the sublime close. In 2007 Tenuta di Trinoro is 35% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in oak (which was long that year), where it spent 8 months prior to finishing its aging in cement. The shorter oak-aging regime Franchetti has employed over the last few years seems to be resulting in more elegant and deeply expressive wines than was the case in the past. The 2007 Tenuta was lightly fined but not filtered prior to being bottled. |

Vinous (91+)(14.5% alcohol): Fully saturated dark red. Expressive aromas of red cherry, blackcurrant, licorice, graphite and chocolatey oak are complicated by hints of iron and leather. Broad, ripe and lush but quite dry, offering outstanding depth to the tarry red fruit and mocha flavors but tightening up considerably on the back end. The substantial tannins turned a bit tougher with aeration; I'd lay this down for a few years. This ought to be splendid with another five to six years of cellaring. |

Wine Enthusiast (98)Here's an unforgettable wine that absolutely makes the case for 2007 being one of the best vintages of late in Montalcino. The wine is broad and polished with masculine tones of dark fruit, leather and tobacco. These aromas evolve so quickly and with such pulsing intensity, the wine comes alive suddenly. There are dusty mineral shadings at the back with tightly textured tannins. Hold 10 more years. |
