The 2018 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has closed down a touch on the nose, eventually revealing red fruit, violet petals and a light oyster shell note. Fine delineation and superb focus. The palate is detailed and precise, just a faint touch of dark chocolate in the background with the mineral-driven finish delivering the sapidity to tempt you back for another sip (in 4-5 years time...when it's ready.)Inc. Vinous (96)
The 2018 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has so much fruit on the nose: blackberry, sous-bois and cedar, more rose scents than I observed out of barrel last year. I feel that this is more powerful than the 2019, an unapologetically extravagant Clos de Bèze yet with a lithe, sensual finish that actually reminds more of Armand Rousseau. Yet - it's that good.Inc. The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru has an expressive bouquet of ample red berry fruit, hints of rose petal and just a touch of vanilla pod. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, lithe tannins. A pliant, silky-smooth La Petite Chapelle with a harmonious, sensual finish. This wine has ambition.Inc. VAT£1,131.64 -
Vinous (92-94)
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Fonteny 1er Cru, which contains 40% whole bunch fruit, has a very detailed bouquet of crushed-stone-infused, minerally fruit; hints of incense and lavender emerge with time in the glass. The palate is fresh and vibrant right from the start, offering candied tart red fruit mixed with orange zest and citrus peel, wonderful definition and such vivacity on the finish that you will beg for another sip straight away. Might this surpass the Clos Saint-Jacques this year?Inc. VAT£808.84 -
Vinous (91)
The 2019 Morey Saint-Denis En La Rue Vergy Blanc has a well defined nose of honeysuckle and peach skin. Well balanced on the palate, it has a fine bead of acidity, fresh and long, with a detailed finish. Delightful, if not long-term.Inc. VAT£493.49
