Cheval des Andes
Cheval des Andes
Cheval des Andes has been destined to be a star since its conception in 1999. A prestigious international partnership between two LVMH estates – Château Cheval Blanc and Terraza de Los Andes, this project encompasses 50ha of vineyards found in the Andes foothills, in which Jane Anson of Decanter referred to as the “New World Grand Cru”. These “Grand Cru” sites, perched at an elevated 1.1km above sea level, produce fruit of refreshing acidity, capturing the nuances of the Andes mountains.
Since 2012, the leap in consistency and quality is particularly evident. And it is largely attributable to the arrival of French viticulturist Gérald Gabillet and ex-Château Palmer technical director Lorenzo Pasquini. This new team has introduced modifications to the irrigation system and the use of oak, shifting the style of the wine more closely to that of Cheval Blanc.
