(6x75cl) 2022Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echézeaux 1er Cru has impressive transparency on the nose, crushed stone infusing red berry fruit, and touches of pressed rose petals. The palate is refined and elegant, a bit (dare I say) in the mold of Rousseau. It is quite linear toward the finish that lingers in the mouth. It just needs a bit more sustain on the finish; otherwise, it's very fine.Inc. VAT£1,017.49 -

(6x75cl) 2010Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-93)
Good bright, deep red. Raspberry and red cherry fruit aromas are lifted by a floral element and nicely complemented by truffley underbrush. Tighter and higher-pitched than the Aux Echezeaux and less sweet today, but boasts excellent flesh and a tactile impression of energy. Very tightly coiled. Should make a stunning village wine. From the north side of Gevrey (Les Champerrieres); both these vines and those in Aux Echezeaux were planted in 1928.Inc. VAT£1,114.69 -

The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, the oldest vines planted back in 1929, has a crisp, slightly leafy bouquet with a light marine influence developing in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with fine tannins, crisp acidity and plenty of dark berry fruit toward the piquant finish. Don't overlook this offering from Jean-Marie Fourrier, because it ranks easily alongside his Premier Crus.Inc. VAT£805.09 -

Elegant and pure, it exemplifies Fourrier's style.Inc. VAT£149.99 -

There is again excellent energy and tension to the intense, precise and muscular flavors that display outstanding complexity and sneaky good length. The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes offers a mixture of red and black fruit laced with blood orange and quince, nicely focused with a sense of energy developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit. Fine acidity, just slightly confit-like towards the finish that erodes a little of the precision compared to other cuvées, though there is satisfying length.Inc. VAT£825.49 -

Outstanding. An ultra-fresh and cool nose freely offers up its combination of both red and dark wild berries, plum and plenty of underbrush wisps. The delicious and vibrant middleweight flavors possess a lovely texture that carries over to the balanced, youthfully austere and moderately firm finale. While this could benefit from having more depth, that should reasonably come in time.Inc. VAT£155.60 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-93)
Bright crimson, fresh red fruit with precision, and length, over and above the Bourgogne. Really smart harmonious wine with good length, the little red fruits staying in the mouth. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted Nov 2024.Inc. VAT£611.89 -
(1x75cl) 2006Vinous (94+)
Good full red. Reticent aromas of black cherry and licorice. Dense and lusher than the CSJ but showing less inner-mouth perfume and lift today. In fact, this is quite clenched and hard to taste. Impressively thick for the vintage, and elegant in spite of its size. But this powerful Griottes will need at least a decade of bottle aging (especially so now that Fourrier seals his corks with wax). The tannins are broad and serious but not hard.Inc. VAT£671.33 -

The 2013 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru has a glorious bouquet with dark cherries, blueberry and stony aromas - taciturn at first, but soaring from the glass after a couple of minutes. There is a lovely wilted-violet scent here. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, wonderful tension and an H.D. finish that sticks in your memory. Utterly divine.Inc. VAT£2,884.38 -

The 2014 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru has a very intense bouquet with maraschino, blueberry and violets blossoming in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe black fruit, blueberry and a hint of balsamic, leading to a quite a structured and dense finish that just needs a touch more finesse. I think that will develop with time. Superb.Inc. VAT£2,259.18 -

The 2017 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru bursts with scents of cassis, wild plums, rich spices, forest floor and black truffle. On the palate, it's full-bodied, chewy and concentrated, standing out as one of the deeper, more powerful wines in the range and concluding with a long and expansive finish. While it isn't as refined as Fourrier's domaine bottlings, if this rounds out with further élevage and bottle age, it's a decidedly promising Mazis in the making.Inc. VAT£3,217.24 -
