    Domaine Duroché

    About Domaine Duroché

The wines by fourth-generation Gilles Duroché and his son Pierre, are utterly transporting. Unmistakably Pinot Noir and inescapably Gevrey-Chambertin, the wines give a dynamic sense of place and can be seen as a masterclass in the style of the appellation. With exacting standards applied across the entire range, from the humblest Bourgogne up to the Grands Crus, Duroché has made a name for itself as one of the premier growers in this fabled region.

    Duroche Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2014 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93)

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru from Duroché has an attractive bouquet with black cherries, bergamot and a touch of black tea. I appreciate the restraint here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity, quite pure with a gentle if not complex finish with pleasant salinité. Not bad at all and it improves in the glass, gaining substance and vigor with each swirl of the glass. Tasted September 2017.

This too is sufficiently reduced that it's impossible to accurately assess. The sleek, indeed even satin-textured flavors possess a really lovely mid-palate mouthfeel that contrasts somewhat with the borderline rustic finale that really tightens up. The tannins are dense but fine and I very much like the depth and persistence. Moderate patience advised.

    Duroche Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2018 (3x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93-95)

The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is showing particularly well this year, bursting with aromas of cherries, cassis, grilled meats and peonies. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a deep and multidimensional core, good concentration and a long, lively finish. This is a generous, textural Charmes that will offer a broad drinking window.

    Duroche Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (87)

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village comes from purchased fruit, though Pierre Duroché does all the vineyard work and harvest. Dark cherry and light raspberry aromas mingle on the nose with just a hint of soy. The fleshy palate is well balanced with supple tannins and a smooth, lightly spiced finish. Delicious. [This cuvée will mainly be sold in China and Middle East markets.]

    2016

    Duroche Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux 2016 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (91-93)

The 2016 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru les Champeaux is a little different than the other cuvées according to Pierre Duroché—more silky in texture. It has a slightly more exotic bouquet compared to the Aux Etelois, hints of overripe Satsuma sitting in a vase complementing the crushed strawberry and red cherry aromas. This feels very sensual. The palate is very well balanced with a soft texture on the entry that belies the structure underneath. There is that faint touch of licorice here (like the Jeunes Rois) and a long aftertaste with a sprinkling of white pepper tingling on the tongue. Excellent—this is a worthy follow-up to the 2015 Les Champeaux.

Attractively light, dusty overlay on the fruit, open and inviting. Bright and fresh on the palate, so drinkable. Fresh, with fine-grained tannins, and already giving pleasure.
