Château Gloria
Château Gloria
Those looking to buy the Classified Growths of Bordeaux without the price tag should look no further than Château Gloria. Unlike most Bordeaux estates with a rich history, Château Gloria is an infant by Bordeaux standards and was founded by Henri Martin, who came from a family involved in the wine trade. Around 1942, he made his first purchase – a 6-hectare plot of vines in Saint-Julien that previously belonged to Château Beychevelle. Over the next few decades, Henri patiently and painstakingly acquired parcels of vines and eventually cobbled together 44 hectares – most of which came from Classified Growth estates, into Château Gloria. Though Château Gloria is outside of the classification of 1855 (because it had not come into existence!), it is every inch a classic, true Saint-Julien. The wines are age-worthy and reliable with the character of each individual vintage showing through in the best ways possible.

Vinous - Neal Martin (94-96)
The 2022 Gloria was picked from 12-26 September and matured in 40% new oak, slightly less than the Saint-Pierre. It has a perfumed, floral nose with crushed violet infusing the black cherry and blueberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sumptuous tannins that belie the structure underneath. With pure fruit and well-judged acidity, this 2022 is sensual with a persistent and lightly spiced finish. Superb.Inc. VAT£399.89
