Jayer Gilles Echezeaux du Dessus Grand Cru 2015 (6x75cl)

Burghound (92-94)

An exuberantly spicy nose displays notes of pepper, violet, sandalwood, plum and Asian-style tea. There is first-rate richness and concentration to the beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that deliver excellent depth and length on the sappy finale. As good as this appears to be, and it appears to be really good, the 2014 is likely to be even better. I would argue for buying both if you can find them!

Jayer Gilles Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes 2015 (6x75cl)

Stephen Tanzer - Vinous (91-94)

Saturated dark red-ruby. Quite reduced on the nose. Densely packed and tactile, with juicy blackberry and violet flavors complicated by a saline element. This very primary wine finishes with chewy tannins and excellent length. Jayer told me he may bottle this very pure, penetrating wine as late as July owing to the very tardy malolactic fermentation. Incidentally, the temperature of the alcoholic fermentation did not exceed 26 degrees C.

Jayer Gilles Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Hauts Poirets 2015 (6x75cl)

Stephen Tanzer - Vinous (90-93)

Bright, dark ruby-red. Very pure, vibrant aromas of kirsch, blackberry, licorice and cocoa powder. Strongly mineral-driven on the palate but not aggressive, with concentrated dark fruit and saline flavors complemented but not overshadowed by the 100% oak. Finishes with fine-grained tannins and lovely floral persistence. Gilles Jayer told me that this climat on thin soil over rock belongs entirely to him and to Domaine Machard de Gramont and really merits premier cru classification. My notes and scores on this cuvée over the past 15 to 20 years suggest that he's right.
