Vinous (92-94)The 2018 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru comes from 45- to 65-year-old vines in a more exposed location than the Les Carelles, at 300m altitude. This year it includes 40% whole cluster. It has more complexity and precision on the nose by comparison with the Les Carelles, featuring lovely raspberry and wild strawberry fruit laced with crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. A finely tuned, precise Volnay with superb precision on the finish. This comes highly recommended. |

Vinous (85-87)The 2018 Volnay Village will have around 20% new oak in the final blend. This feels a little smudged on the nose, with blurry red berry fruit. The palate is better defined, offering red cherry and strawberry on the opening and fine acidity, although it needs a little more length on the tart finish. |
