A Volnay based domaine, Michel Lafarge is run by the father-son duo of Michel and Frederic, who pursue a rigorous course of biodynamics in their production in order to maintain vineyard health and minimise the necessity for modern technology. The emphasis is on traditional viticulture and therefore they have a balanced approach to the management of yields, vine age and employ of new oak. As a result the domaine is run by the intuition of the Lafarge family; clearly, to great effect.

The 2013 Volnay Vendanges Selectionées comes from a selection of 50-year-old vines on more calcareous soils that tend to produce more "vin de garde" fruit than vines used for the Volnay Village. There was no 2012 produced by the domaine While it is adorned with similar scents as the Village, there is a greater sense of depth and intensity on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, more backbone than the Village Cru and a sense of symmetry toward the finish. It is very well defined. The palate is quite fleshy and rounded on the entry, finely judged in terms of acidity, with a slightly crunchiness to the texture on the finish, just a dab of white pepper on the aftertaste.
