Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)
Mid crimson purple. The nose is a little more restrained. Now some lively cherries on the palate with very good grip, a little bit of white pepper, with the fruit returning effortlessly behind. Smoothly charming. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted Dec 2024.Inc. VAT£116.93 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (87-90)
Good deep red. At once more reserved and more precise on the nose than the normale, with hints of dark fruits and minerals. Tighter, fresher and more wound-up, with ripe, harmonious acidity. Comes across as riper than the regular village wine, and longer on the aftertaste. The vines that go into this cuvee are located adjacent to premier cru parcels in Volnay.Inc. VAT£1,152.41 -
Vinous (89+)
Saturated dark red with ruby highlights. Black fruit aromas show an almost liqueur-like ripeness. Deep flavors of dark berries and violet, given excellent cut by firm acidity. A serious, youthfully tight wine with a solid tannic spine. I'd give this a good eight years in the cellar. As good a vintage for this cuvee as I can recall.Inc. VAT£95.33 -
Vinous (87+)
Good full red. High-toned, slightly piney aromas of cherry, spices and mint. Juicy, dry and penetrating, with the minty quality carrying through onto the palate. Finishes firmly tannic, with a saline nuance and slightly spiky acidity. I wanted a bit more verve.Inc. VAT£96.53 -
Vinous (90-92)
The 2009 Volnay Vendanges Selectionnées is a selection of village-level parcels. This is a decidedly centered style of Volnay built on a solid core of fruit. It possesses plenty of mid-palate juiciness, while the fruit has enough sheer density to match the tannins on the finish.Inc. VAT£90.53 -
(6x75cl) 2011Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (89-91)
Bright medium red. Cherry, earthy underbrush and a whiff of spicy oak on the nose; reminded me of Barbaresco. Dry and energetic in the mouth, with noteworthy lift and vinosity to the red fruit, spice and earth flavors. More structured and complex than the regular village cuvee, but its more serious tannic spine will probably call for a couple years of patience.Inc. VAT£444.80 -
(1x75cl) 2013Wine Advocate (93)
The 2013 Volnay Vendanges Selectionées comes from a selection of 50-year-old vines on more calcareous soils that tend to produce more "vin de garde" fruit than vines used for the Volnay Village. There was no 2012 produced by the domaine While it is adorned with similar scents as the Village, there is a greater sense of depth and intensity on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, more backbone than the Village Cru and a sense of symmetry toward the finish. Give this 5-6 years in bottle before broaching, and you will have a very serious Volnay on your hands.Inc. VAT£104.00 -
Jancis Robinson (17.5)
Terroir selection in the centre of the appellation just below the premiers crus. Sturdy, meaty nose warns against opening this too early. Pretty compact with very fine sandy tannins.Inc. VAT£872.98 -

Vinous (90-92)
The 2017 Volnay Vendange Sélectionée comes from vines that lie just below the line of Premier Crus. It has a bright bouquet with wild strawberry, red cherries and a faint, almost ash-like scent. It is very well defined. The palate is quite fleshy and rounded on the entry, finely judged in terms of acidity, with a slightly crunchiness to the texture on the finish, just a dab of white pepper on the aftertaste. Probably one of the most overlooked of Lafarge's Volnays - I suggest you don't.Inc. VAT£99.20 -
Vinous (89-91)
The 2018 Volnay "Vendage Sélectionée" is a selection from four parcels below Echards, Pluchots, Jeotte and Grand Champs that is matured in a little new oak. It has a high-toned bouquet of blueberry and raspberry fruit, and little cassis emerges with time in the glass. The palate is sweet and succulent on the entry and very supple in the mouth, delivering black cherries and blueberry toward the finish. Very fine.Inc. VAT£333.49 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2019 Volnay "Vendange Sélectionée" comes from four parcels located just under the Premier Crus that tends to have more complexity and structure. There is a clear difference on the nose compared to the Village Cru with deeper red berry fruit that is certainly more intense. The palate is beautifully balanced with chalky tannins, red fruit with a lovely piquancy on the finish that fans out wonderfully. Superb.Inc. VAT£547.09 -
Burghound (90-93)
Outstanding Top value. This is aromatically similar to the straight Volnay but with more evidence spice and floral elements. There is outstanding intensity to the dense and powerful flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the impressively long, balanced and firmly structured finale. This is absolutely terrific for its level and easily boxes above its weight.Inc. VAT£1,095.40 -
