Nicolas Rossignol
About Nicolas Rossignol
Nicolas Rossignol has a firm footing in the villages of Volnay and Pommard. Prior to founding his own domaine, Nicolas worked with his father at Domaine Rossignol-Jeanniard, based in Volnay. With just a few hectares found also in Volnay, Domaine Nicolas Rossignol was founded in 1997, and has since grown by leaps and bounds. Quickly outgrowing his winery, Nicolas has since relocated to Beaune, where he shares a winery with Benjamin Leroux.
Today, Nicolas produces wines under nearly 30 designations, mostly specializing in 1er Crus of the Côte de Beaune appellations, notably Volnay and Pommard. It is therefore little wonder to hear that William Kelley regards Nicolas as “a winemaker who today numbers among the Côte de Beaune's best producers”.

Wine Advocate (92-94)
The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières opens in the glass with pretty aromas of peonies, rose petals, sweet wild berries, orange rind, raw cocoa and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, supple and perfumed, it's sumptuous and melting, with lively acids and a charming, enveloping profile. This is one of the most seductive wines in the range.Inc. VAT£406.84 -
Burghound (92-94)
Once again there is a markedly spicy character to the nose of plum, various dark berries and poached plum scents. The dense, sappy and less overtly mineral-driven flavors possess outstanding depth and persistence on the balanced finale. This is also going to require at least a few years of patience to be approachable though it should be fully capable of rewarding 12 to 15 years of keeping.Inc. VAT£500.69 -
Vinous (90)
The 2017 Volnay Clos des Angles 1er Cru was the only Premier Cru that Rossignol had bottled in August 2018. It has an open, expressive crushed strawberry and raspberry bouquet, not the most complex on the block. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening, the 50% whole cluster fruit beautifully assimilated, leading to a poised and quite sustained finish. Worth seeking out. Drink over the next decade.Inc. VAT£633.64 -
Burghound (93-95)
Very ripe aromas of cassis, black berry liqueur, violet and anise precede the equally broad-shouldered flavors that also coat the palate with dry extract on the powerful, hugely long and very serious finish that is shaped by a markedly firm tannic spine. This is a buy and forget you own it wine as I would suggest not touching a bottle for at least 10 years. With that said, this is most impressive.Inc. VAT£590.44 -
Vinous (88-90)
(Rossignol's five lower parcels were hit by hail and the one at the top was undamaged; Rossignol vinified them separately and then blended them for aging):Deep red-ruby. Attractive perfume to the aromas and flavors of black cherry, menthol, brown spices and garrigue; a slightly roasted quality is countered by an element of medicinal reserve. In a very ripe style but enlivened by chalky minerality. Finishes with ripe tannins and a burst of cherry.Inc. VAT£922.18
