Rieussec
Since 1984, Rieussec has been owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild, who have poured money into this historic Sauternes 18th century property. Traditional Sauternes harvest techniques are used, with grapes selectively picked according to their ripeness. Considering the cost to make Sauternes, Rieussec represents excellent value in Bordeaux.

The 2017 Carmes de Rieussec is dazzling. Here, too, the winemaking team captured a striking balance of richness and energy. Most second wines from Sauternes these days are light and floral. The Carmes has plenty of those qualities, but it is far from an easygoing Sauternes; rather it packs a serious punch. Lemon confit, passion fruit, exotic flowers and mint meld into the creamy, resonant finish.Inc. VAT£191.44 -
Decanter (97)
An exceptional wine, this is just stuffed full of exotic fruits, layers of apricot, saffron, truffle and citrus, all powering through the palate with a mouthwatering finish. An early harvest - they finished picking in 2017 the same day that they started in 2018, and the crop showed unusually pure botrytis, needing less sorting than usual. Absolutely one to look out for.Inc. VAT£477.64 -
