    • Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Hauts Doix 2020 (6x75cl)

      Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)

The second vineyard to be picked, 50% whole bunch vinification, with 25% new wood. This is a draining sandy soil which gets direct sun only in the morning, so not hot but dry. 12.8% alcohol. A dense dark black purple. For the moment the whole bunches speak quite loudly. Dark fruit, rather exciting, shows the oak a bit, not all together but there is a lot of wine here. When this does come together it will be rather impressive. Tasted: December 2021

    • Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Hauts Doix 2021 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (89-91)

The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Hauts Doix 1er Cru contains 100% whole bunches with 40% new oak. Now, unlike the Les Seuvrées, this absorbs the stems with much greater ease. Vibrant red fruit and touches of wild mint and fennel. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, fresh and focused, maybe it lacks a bit of grip and substance but there is ample tension that should ensure this ages with style.

    • Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 2013 (6x75cl)

      Wine Advocate (92)

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers has an upfront, fruit-driven bouquet with pure raspberry, wild strawberry and dried rose petal aromas that unfurl in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, gentle at first but segueing into quite a structured and multi-layered finish with edgy redcurrant and crushed strawberry notes on the finish. This is excellent. Tasted September 2016.

    • Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 2014 (6x75cl)

      Wine Advocate (94)

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Groffier's 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Sentiers has an intense bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, quite spicy and slightly oriental in style. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, again, spicy and lively with a sappy, saline finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is a superb, if not particularly subtle, Chambolle-Musigny destined to give many years of drinking pleasure. Tasted September 2017.

      Vinous (93)

The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru has an outstanding bouquet - exquisitely defined red berry fruit with subtle earthy tones. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, plenty of tightly coiled red fruit with a citrus-fresh finish that revivified the senses and leaves you urging for the next sip. Superb and classy. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.

    • Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 2018 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (93)

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru is well defined on the nose with blackberry, freshly tilled soil, chalk and a light marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite focused and demonstrates a lovely briny, quite spicy finish that feels very cohesive. This should fulfil its potential from barrel.

    • Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 2019 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (91-93)

Matured in 25% new oak and 90% whole bunches, the 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru is the most opulent of Groffier’s 2019s with kirsch and orange zest infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a little oak to be subsumed on the entry. Good weight, quite muscular for a Chambolle with liberally sprinkled black pepper enhancing the finish. A little stocky, bottle age will smooth any jagged corners.

    • Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 2020 (6x75cl)

      Tim Atkin MW (94)

These vines sit in deeply clay soils, which graciously help shield the vines from heat spells. Nicolas Groffier used 100% whole bunches (the berries are so small he doesn't want to damage the fruit) but only 20% new oak. The result is a finely scented Chambolle with pure black cherries, blackberry coulis and licorice. The medium-bodied structure is focused rather primly between the resounding acidic refreshment and sculpted tannins. 2025-35

    • Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 2021 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (90-92)

The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru comes from Cordon-Royat-trained 80-year-old vines that encountered a lot of frost. Raised in 40% new oak, this has a tightly-wound bouquet that unfurls with redcurrant, cranberry and light blood orange scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins that frame the tensile red fruit; citrus fresh with a pleasant bitterness lending energy on the finish. Drink this fine Chambolle over the next 12-15 years.

    • Robert Groffier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrees 2015 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (90+)

Healthy dark red. Aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, licorice, rock and game are slightly wild in an enticing way. At once rich and juicy in the mouth, with firm acidity giving the black fruit flavors a penetrating quality for the vintage. Comes across as clearly more tannic than the 2016 version but with plenty of buffering material. This very concentrated village offering finishes with surprising length and firm mineral-driven acidity, and may be in the process of shutting down in bottle.

    • Robert Groffier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrees 2016 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (92)

The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées contains one-third whole bunch fruit and is matured in 25% new oak. Nicolas Groffier mentioned that it was hard to taste in November and it has since changed now in bottle. It has a light, pure, floral bouquet with discrete oyster shell scents that develop with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple, very detailed entry that really took me by surprise with its elegance. This is a beautifully crafted wine from Nicolas with a sophisticated finish that punches well above its weight. This comes highly recommended. Tasted at the Domaine.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées, which includes 20% whole bunch, has a well-defined bouquet of perfumed cranberry and raspberry fruit, undergrowth and light black pepper aromas. The palate is well balanced and quite pure in style, hints of blue fruit intermingling with red toward the lightly spiced, nuanced finish. Give it a couple of years in bottle and it will turn into a fine Gevrey to drink over 12–15 years.

One third whole bunch, no new wood. 13% as finished wine, picked at 12.5%. An even, crimson purple, the nose is quite gentle, but the fruit grows well behind, strawberry aromas with a savoury touch, good acidity and very persistent. A success. Tasted: December 2021

    • Robert Groffier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrees 2021 (6x75cl)

      Vinous (85-87)

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées has a light nose with airy red fruit, quite tertiary in style, well defined if missing a bit of intensity. The palate is nicely poised on the entry, with crisp and slightly brittle tannins and fine acidity. It needs to develop more matière on the finish as it come across a little "skinny" at the moment. I feel that this is a cuvée that might have benefitted from some de-stemming.
