Vinous (93)
Bright ruby-red. Black raspberry, licorice and dark chocolate on the slightly reduced nose, with a spicy quality emerging with air. Wonderfully plush, concentrated and velvety, conveying a spherical impression of volume that has something in common with the Saint-Georges. The black cherry flavor is complicated by hints of earth and flowers and enlivened by saline minerality. This edge-free wine maintains its freshness on the back end, finishing with fine, dusty, building tannins and lovely perfume. At this point in our tasting, Liger-Belair noted that in some vineyards in 2016, he lost 40% of his grapes to frost and another 20% to galloping mildew, noting that he was late on one vineyard treatment and spent the following weeks in reaction mode.Inc. Vinous (90)
Bright red-ruby. Musky, reticent aromas of mocha, leather and earth. Enters the mouth silky and subtly sweet, with its currant and blackberry fruit flavors showing a slight leathery rusticity. Finishes with ripe tannins and sneaky length--and an inviting juiciness.Inc. VAT£903.89 -
Vinous (93+)
Bright, dark red. Captivating scents of raspberry, blackberry, dried flowers, violet and musky stone. Fat, plush and sweet but laid-back, conveying terrific saline depth and harmonious framing acidity to its dark berry and licorice flavors. Not nearly as open in the mouth as it is on the nose; in fact, this is a baby today. Finishes with serious, broad, fine-grained tannins and lovely lift for the vintage.Inc. VAT£2,065.78
