Le Vieux Donjon Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2008 (12x75cl)

Wine Advocate (88-90)

The 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape is certainly a strong effort for the vintage. Classic notes of kirsch, plum, spice box, cedar, and garrigue are accompanied by deep fruit, an attractive dark ruby/plum color, and surprising body as well as depth for a 2008. It should drink well young, and evolve for up to a decade.

2013

Le Vieux Donjon Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2013 (12x75cl)

Wine Advocate (90)

Showing even better from bottle than barrel, the outstanding 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape is a slightly shifted blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre that saw the normal traditional vinification (50% destemmed) and aging in foudre. It reveals a healthy ruby/purple color to go with lots of pepper, Provençal herbs and currants. Medium-bodied, with more density than the 2014, it shows the slightly austere edge to the vintage, yet has a beautiful texture, ripe tannin and an excellent finish. It will have 10-15 years or overall longevity.

Le Vieux Donjon Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2015 (6x150cl)

Wine Advocate (93)

These days, Vieux Donjon is one of the few estates in the region making only a single cuvée (Close des Papes is another). The 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape is a floral, violet-scented wine that's supple and ripe. Only medium to full-bodied, it showcases complex garrigue and licorice notes rather than oodles of red fruit and comes to a long, silky finish.

Le Vieux Donjon Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2017 (12x75cl)

Wine Advocate (95)

One of the few estates where the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape actually eclipses the 2016, this is a top-flight effort. Black cherries and red raspberries combine with dried spices in a complex swirl of fruity and savory elements, garnished with sprigs of garrigue. Full-bodied, round and rich, this velvety wine should drink well through at least 2035.
