But it lacks that ostensibly lesser wine’s mouthwatering salinity and charm. Intimations of lemon and white peach on the nose point to the fruits found on a firm, substantial palate, but seed and pit are more evident there than is fruit flesh. The wine’s overall sense of austerity is accentuated by its being (at three grams per liter) radically dry – though that was also the case with this year’s Goldtröpfchen.
