  • Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese 2017 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (98)

Egon Müller's 2017 Scharzhofberger Auslese (AP #7) offers fascinating crunchy, perfectly ripe, almost oily Riesling and dark slate aromas with some iron and herbal notes. This nose represents perfect ripeness, and that’s what you get on the palate: a lush, crystalline and flinty, mouthwateringly salty, fresh and piquant Riesling of great class, complexity and style. Gosh, this is a beautiful and seductive Scharzhofberger of which I wish I had a fuder in my cellar. Absolutely marvelous and a must-taste (or have). Tasted in June 2019.

  • Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese 2017 (1x37.5cl)

Jean Fisch & David Rayer (100)

The 2017er Scharzhofberger TBA was harvested at well over 200° Oechsle. What is remarkable here is that the wine proves so delicate and elegant despite its huge ripeness. The nose develops stunningly complex notes of greengage, date, marzipan, raisin, and fine herbs all wrapped into great creamy elements. The wine develops a stunningly vibrant yet also superbly creamy feel on the palate, where more date mingles with herbs and spices to make for a surprisingly refined and multi-layered feel for such a “big” TBA. The wine grows in oiliness and presence as it develops on the palate yet always remains focused and refined. It leaves one with a great airy feel of exotic dried fruits, whipped cream and honey in the never-ending finish. This is simply a perfect TBA in the making.

  • Fonseca 2017 (12x37.5cl)

    Wine Advocate (98)

The 2017 Vintage Port, not quite bottled when originally seen, has now been in bottle for a couple of years. It is a field blend (with typical grapes like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca) aged for approximately 20 months in used French oak. It comes in with 98 grams of residual sugar. This is a great Fonseca, distinctive, with a touch of eucalyptus and plums, but also loaded with delicious fruit. Like its Taylor's siblings, there is also a fine backbone. I'd say it is a step behind the Taylor's duo this year, but not by much. It will age well, to say the least.

  • Forstmeister Geltz Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Riesling Auslese 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

This auctioned Auslese reflects a significant portion of botrytized, shriveled berries and was picked out during the last week of harvest. Quince, gooseberry and apricot preserves are mingled with glazed pineapple and candied grapefruit peel, making for an impression on both nose and palate that is at once rich, tart and piquant. Enormously high (43 grams) dry extract translates into an implacable sense of density, which is accompanied by an almost metallic sheen and a degree of brightness that may find you searching for the gustatory equivalent of sunglasses. The rapier, energetic finish left my salivary glands pumping, my gums and tongue tingling, and the sum of my mouth parts generally feeling wrung out. This formidable elixir is likely to be a long keeper, and I hope it will eventually deliver greater genuine pleasure.

  • Forstmeister Geltz Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Riesling Spatlese 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

Once one knows Hanno Zilliken’s unique approach to numbering his wines, one will recognize that – by no means for the first time – his auction Spätlese originated with higher-Oechsle and generally more concentrated fruit than that which informed the lightest Auslese (this year, the A.P. #5). There is density and blazing brightness here, nearly equal to that of the aforementioned Auslese, but there’s also a slightly more playful and nuanced complexity. Yellow plum, white peach, grapefruit and lime are tinged with mint and smoky black tea on the nose and firm palate, and stony and mouthwateringly saline notes add impressively and appealingly to a vibrantly sustained finish.

  • Glenelly Lady May 2017 (6x75cl)

    Greg Sherwood MW (97)

If the 2015 Lady May resembled a powerful, dense, Pauillac-styled Cabernet Sauvignon led red blend, and the 2016 a broader, softer expression from a warm dry vintage, then the 2017 is pretty much the antithesis, boasting the most elegant, silky, seamlessly harmonious texture combined with an attractively fragrant, Margaux-esque delicacy, an understated density and graceful precision. While super youthful, the wine inevitably displays some of the lush, alluring and reassuringly expensive new oak creaminess, boasting layers of warm buttered brown toast smothered in black currant preserve, fresh espresso, hints of mocha dust and delicate vanilla pod spice notes. But probably the most pleasing element about this wine is the way ex-winemaker Luke O’Cuinneagain captured the truest essence of the 2017 vintage with its extreme purity, weightless fruit concentration that dances across the palate together with a focused, piercing intensity on the long, silky, luxurious finish. This is class personified and I for one am completely smitten. Drink on release and over 25+ years.

Based on Touriga Franca from south-facing slopes at Quinta dos Malvedos, with Touriga Nacional from quintas Vila Velha and Vale de Mealhadas (both predominantly north-facing), topped out with fruit from old vines at Quinta da Tua and 10% Sousão. It's a very deep blue-black colour with an expressive, super-ripe nose of plum, mint and bergamot which springs from the glass. The palate is rich, velvety and voluptuous in typical Graham’s style. The initial richness makes the tannins, which show up on the ripe, broad, mouthwatering finish. Wonderful purity and definition. A real wow of a wine! 3.9 Baumé.

Medium yellow-green, silver reflections. An inviting bouquet of fine blossom honey underlaid with nuances of fresh apricot, fine tropical fruit and a floral touch. Juicy palate with fine fruit, silky structure, elegant acidity, all perfectly balanced. Mineral and long on the finish, this is extremely satisfying and will age beautifully.

  • Gantenbein Pinot Noir 2017 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93-94)

Tasted as a sample that was assembled the same day I tasted it in November 2018 (and a day before the real assemblage), the 2017 Pinot Noir is very intense and fruity on the nose, still with yeasty notes. The palate is concentrated and lush, very fine and elegant, with great finesse and intensity. This is generous but fresh and structured, with crystalline acidity and minerality. Very promising.

Distinguished for its class and quality, the Georg Mosbacher Forster Jesuitengarten Riesling Grosses Gewachs 2017 is truly a testament to excellent winemaking.

  • Graham's 2017 (6x75cl)

    Decanter (98)

3.9 Baumé.

  • Graham's The Stone Terraces 2017 (3x75cl)

    James Suckling (100)

The aromas here are amazing: crushed blueberries and raspberries with wet earth and dried flower. Orange blossom. Tar and stone. Full body, very sweet but the powerful and fine-grained tannins balance the wine out. Tannins and fruit envelop your mouth with each sip. Great potential. Single vineyard port. 600 cases. Try after 2030.

  • Gusbourne Chardonnay Guinevere 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (91)

The 2017 Boot Hill Vineyard Guinevere comes from selected parcels of Chardonnay from the estate, matured for 12 months in oak barriques. Silvery in hue, it has a well-defined bouquet with almond and sesame scents, developing subtle marine-like notes with aeration. The oak is nicely integrated both on the nose and on the palate, which is underpinned by a fine bead of acidity that counters the creamy texture. Sour lemon mixes with white peach and hazelnut, maintaining impressive focus and poise toward the persistent finish. Excellent.

  • Joh. Jos. Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel 2017 (12x37.5cl)

    Vinous (95)

Scents of pear and quince suggest a fresh as well as jellied aspect, mingled with mint, fennel and anise. The creamy palate delivers a corresponding combination of freshness and cooling green herbacity as well as bright grapefruit and lime citricity that is remarkable for a wine at once richly confitured in flavors and slicked with honeyed traces of botrytis. As if the aforementioned complex and harmonious juxtaposition were not striking enough, this beauty’s vibrant, soaring finish adds stimulating cress-like nips to its already diverse herbal arsenal.
