Tim Atkin MW (100)
What does perfection taste like? I've sampled this wine twice - once in Gevrey and once in London - and I have no hesitation in saying that this is it. There's 100% new oak here, but the wine has digested it, like an lion swallowing an antelope. Sikly, fine and effortlessly structured, it's the kind of wine that makes Burgundy lovers dewy eyed. Still a ittle closed at this stage, but this has everything in place for a long life: concentration, fruit, vanilla oak and structure.Inc. VAT£3,383.60 -
James Suckling (100)
Majestic aromas of crushed berries, meat and orange peel. Full body, lots of powerful yet ripe tannins and exquisite fruit. Amazing depth and density. They said they macerated a little more than normal because the fruit was perfect. A classic nebbiolo that reminds me of the great 1996. About 30% less production. Don’t touch for five to 10 years. A celebratory wine for Gaja’s return to the Barbaresco appellation.Inc. VAT£2,367.64 -
Vinous (100)
The 2016 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn is a fabulous, incredibly complete wine that soars out of the glass with explosive structure and vertical lift. The tannins are very much present, but also matched beautifully by the wine's aromatic intensity and overall drive. Dark macerated cherry, spice, leather, licorice, plum and mocha add darker shades of nuance. In 2016, Sorì Tildìn is a bit more brooding and bigger than it often is, and yet all the elements are impeccably balanced. It is quite simply a majestic wine of real grandeur and total class, but it is not obvious. Sorì Tildìn will appeal most to readers who understand what the truest essence of Nebbiolo is all about. In a word: magnificent!Inc. VAT£3,033.64 -
James Suckling (100)
If every Chambertin was like this, we could give up our job. So much spice, earthy and meaty character, but in the end it's the amarena-cherry fruit that wins out. Enormous concentration and finesse. Staggering purity of flavor. Then comes the spectacularly uplifting finish that just doesn't want to stop. Drink or hold.Inc. VAT£2,105.09 -
Kerin O'Keefe (100)
The drop-dead gorgeous Barbaresco 2019 Asili Riserva from the Produttori del Barbaresco stuns with its extreme finesse and heady scents of wild rose, red berry, camphor, leather and brown spice. Full-bodied and vibrant, the elegant, linear palate delivers red cherry, blood orange, star anise and ground clove alongside youthfully tight but extremely refined tannins. Bright acidity keeps it impeccably balanced and energized, lending great tension. It’s a superb expression of this celebrated site and the fantastic vintage. An absolute stunner.Inc. VAT£566.69
