Wine Advocate (97)One of the great renditions of this cuvée in recent times is the 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques, a magical wine that unfurls in the glass with a deep and complex bouquet of red berries and plums mingled with hints of raw cocoa, violets, blood orange and peony, complemented by enticing carnal bass notes. Full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's seamless and complete, with fine concentration, racy but ripe acids and ample reserves of fine, powdery tannin, concluding with a long and sapid finish. The 2005 Clos Saint-Jacques is a decade away from full maturity, but its reference-point quality has long been impossible to miss. This bottle, enjoyed in a Burgundian restaurant, only amplified my regret that I have none of this particular vintage in my own cellar. |

Yet it possesses disarming transparency and fabulous precision, weightless yet paradoxically intense with a long tail on the finish. Deep and beautifully layered, with exquisite aromatics and tons of class, the 2010 is one of the wines of the night. Vinous (90-92)The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a mineral-driven bouquet with dark berry fruit, sous-bois and just a touch of dessicated orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity. Is it the most complex Lavaux? Maybe not, though it has an attractive juiciness mixed with sapidity that keeps you coming back for more. |

Vinous (89-91)Bright medium red, a bit darker than the Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Château. Darker, spicier and more complex on the nose, conveying a suggestion of Brochon power. A step up in energy and clarity as well, offering lovely density and cut to its raspberry and spice flavors. Finishes classically dry, firmly structured and long. As impressive an early showing as I can recall for this village wine chez Rousseau. |

Vinous (89-91)The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a little more intensity and lifted compared to the Clos du Château, a touch more mineralité too. The palate is very well balanced, quite juicy and ripe but over excessively. Dark berry fruit laced with spice and it fans out wonderfully on the finish. Lovely. |

Wine Advocate (86-88)The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin Clos du Château has a pretty red cherry and strawberry nose that is in keeping with the Rousseau style. The palate is crisp and lively, with fine tannin but not immense weight, but it is fresh on the tart cherry finish. Note that it has not been decided if this will be released or not. It sounds as if it will and it deserves to be, as it is keeping with the Rousseau style. |

She told me that she opened this bottle about six hours before I tasted it and predicted that it would be better the next day. She also described this Mazy as a funny wine, like a clown. |

Vinous (94-96)The 2019 Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru is clearly a step up from the Charmes-Chambertin, offering deeper and more intense red fruit, rose petal and undergrowth aromas. There is also a more tangible marine influence at play here. The palate is medium-bodied with very good structure. Elegant and poised toward the finish, which leaves hints of tobacco and truffle on the aftertaste. Superb. Quintessentially Rousseau. |
