Burghound (95)A ripe, expressive and fantastically complex nose that features a huge array of red and especially blue fruits, spice, earth, game and underbrush notes that leads to rich, full, suave and seriously deep flavors that coat the mouth on the long, concentrated and palate staining finish. This seems almost approachable but it's because the firm lashing of tannin is perfectly integrated and this will last for years but require at least a decade before even beginning to drink well. |

Vinous (92)(100% chardonnay grown in Le Mesnil, Avize and Villers-Marmery; disgorged October 12, 2011; LA109D29111): Bright yellow-gold. A heady, complex bouquet evokes dried citrus fruits, quince, white flowers and iodine, with a hint of truffle in the background. Shows both power and finesse, offering lively Meyer lemon, orange pith and fresh fig flavors. The floral quality builds with air and carries through a very long, mineral-accented finish. |

Jancis Robinson (18.5)Mid blueish crimson with quite a pale rim. Light nose initially with a hint of undergrowth but lots of ripe sweetness underneath. Jewel bright, so bright, fruit – not that intense, but very winning, and it opened up in the glass becoming more intense and super-bright cherry fruity with the merest hint of espresso. Marked acidity on the palate is the first impression and then some oak tannin still. Very, very youthful – much more introspective than I remember the 2004s at this stage. Even severe. You take this on faith at this stage because the fruit weight is not sufficient to distract from all the infant aspects of acid and tannin. |

Vinous (97)I was blown away by the 2005 Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru because though I have tasted it two or three times, never could I envisage that it would reach this level. It has laser-like precision on the nose with more blue fruit than I remember, so much mineralité, as if someone had just ground limestone directly into the wine glass. The palate is exquisitely balanced with filigree tannins framing the pure red fruit, a Pinot Noir with unerring symmetry. It gains weight and depth with aeration, ultimately transforming into a profound wine and one of the best bottles of Grands-Echézeaux that I have tasted from the domaine. Tasted at Noizé restaurant in London. |

Vinous (100)The 2005 La Tâche is simply magnificent. There is not too much I can add. Deep, powerful and richly textured, the 2005 simply has it all. Time in the glass releases the aromatics, but it is the wine’s pure sensuality I find most enticing. A host of dark red and blue stone fruits, hard candy and wild flowers take center stage. Even with all of its intensity, the 2005 retains striking freshness and purity. Can it get better than this? |

Vinous (98+)The 2005 Richebourg makes a strong argument that the answer to that question might be a resounding ‘yes!’ Huge beams of tannin are present but nearly covered by the sheer intensity the fruit. Black cherry, plum, mint, lavender and graphite give the 2005 much of its gravitas. Tonight, the 2005 is insanely beautiful and absolutely stellar, and I say that never having truly fallen for the domaine’s Richebourg. The 2005, though, well, it simply will not be denied. |

Burghound (97)An incredibly perfumed and supremely elegant if exceptionally ripe nose features notes of various black fruit scents that are replete with soy, hoisin, clove and anise nuances. There is outstanding power and richness to the refined, detailed and very firmly structured flavors that culminate in a precise, pure and driving finish that goes on and on. This is a really impressive effort that offers terrific potential but fans of this wine should note that it is arguably more masculine than it usually is yet at the same time utterly seamless. In sum this is arguably the finest RSV that the Domaine has ever produced. |

Burghound (96)A gorgeously scented nose offers up layered aromas of spice, earth, tea, sandalwood, wild flowers and black currant. There is an unusually refined mouth feel to the focused, intense and sleekly muscular flavors that possess equally good depth while delivering flat out superb length on the impeccably well-balanced finale. This is still very much on the way up but it is so harmonious and pretty that it could be enjoyed for its nose alone. That said, this is a very serious effort that should peak in the range of 7 to 10 years from now and then be capable of holding for 3 to 4 decades thereafter. In a word, wonderful. |

Vinous (90+)Good deep, bright red. Liqueur-like aromas of maraschino cherry, mint and soy sauce. Suave on entry, then tangy in the middle palate, offering complex flavors of red fruits, spices and mint. Finishes with a serious tannic spine that gives this wine a youthful austerity. I find a captivating savory character reminiscent of mushroom umami from the nose straight through to the aftertaste. Lay this one down for at least six or seven years. |

Vinous (92+)Saturated, bright red-ruby. Musky aromas of red berries, minerals, underbrush, smoke and oak. The mid-palate shows a vibrant sweetness and a pronounced minerality but today is dominated by a strong and slightly raw oakiness. I find this tough going today, but the wine's powerful extract, strong acidity and firm tannic spine suggest it will reward 10 or 12 years of cellaring. (Unfortunately, my sample of the Mazis-Chambertin was corked.) |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2005 Fonsalette Cotes du Rhone is a blockbuster. This blend of 50% Grenache, 35% Cinsault, and 15% Syrah has a dark ruby/purple color and a beautifully structured style with notes of black truffle, licorice, black currant, and sweet cherry intermixed with some crushed rock and flowers. Vinous (97)The 2005 Ruchottes-Chambertin is the highlight of recent vintages. It has a brilliant nose that is endowed with astonishing precision, far more than previous vintages with mineral-rich cassis and red cherry fruit, later a hint of oyster shell. Crystalline is the word that springs to mind. The palate is symmetrical in terms of its balance, armed with filigree tannin, show-stopping purity and a satin-like finish that takes your breath away. Is there a touch of stem addition on the end? I don't care. This is a gold-plated fabulous wine. Tasted at the Ruchottes-Chambertin vertical in London. |

Wine Advocate (93-94)The 2005 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras smells of ripe blackberry, raspberry, forest floor and chalk dust. A polished, creamy, yet palpably chalky and brightly fresh-fruited palate offers a sumptuous saturation of black and red fruits with inner-mouth aromatic accents of cherry pit, pistachio, flowers and citrus zest. This shows wonderful primary fruit intensity and energy, exciting length, and the promise of continued poise and polish for at least another 10-12 years. |

Vinous (90)Good medium red. Dark raspberry, coffee and spicy oak on the nose; this wine's flamboyant ripeness almost came as a shock following the more reticent 2006s. Big, round, plush and ripe, with spicy dark raspberry and chocolate flavors and considerable density for village wine. Quite smooth and harmonious at the moment: Roumier volunteered that this is not as closed yet as he expected it would be. |

Wine Advocate (90-91)Like the rest of the wines here at the time I tasted, Roumier’s 2005 Morey St. Denis Clos de la Bussiere had been sulfured and racked in autumn after a very late malo and was in barrel awaiting imminent assemblage in tank for (unfiltered) bottling. It was slightly reduced but responded well to a good shaking, displaying subtle black fruits, high-toned almond and maraschino, roasted meatiness, resin, and forest floor notes on the nose. It fills the mouth with roasted meat richness, bitter-sweet black fruits, high-toned distilled fruit esters, and finishes with solidity, grip, and savory saltiness. |

Vinous (98+)Saturated dark red. Knockout nose combines blueberry, blackberry, violet, orange peel, crushed rocks and minerals. Almost painful in its pure sappy density, with palate-staining flavors of wild dark berries, flowers, and pepper. And yet this is easier to taste today than the comparatively compact Bonnes-Mares. The fabulous mounting finish goes on and on. An incredible wine, with great complexity to come. This boasts the density of a diamond. |
