James Suckling (98)
Richly complex nose of spiced yellow plums, brioche, toasted lemons, butterscotch, baked apples, strawberries, coffee cream, praline, earthy mushroom and truffle hints. It’s creamy, layered and generous, with soft bubbles. Complex toasty and spicy elements carry through to a long finish. Opulence and sophistication. Single parcel pinot noir, 100% vinified in oak barrels. No malo. 1g/l dosage. Drink now or hold.Inc. VAT£1,803.62 -
James Suckling (99)
A mind-blowing wine. This is super subtle and intense with aromas of peaches, light strawberry and cream. Also shows rose petal and cooked peaches. Medium to full body, with ultra-fine tannins that feel like fine silk. The finish goes on for mintutes. It floats across the palate. The winemaker says the closet vintage to this is the 1990, but I think this is better.Inc. VAT£1,297.66 -
Exuding finesse and complexity, the Nicolas Maillart Franc de Pied Extra Brut 2005 is a masterful creation of this esteemed ninth-generation producer. Born from the fertile soils of Montagne de Reims, in the heart of Champagne, France, this vintage is a rare jewel, boasting a 100% Pinot Noir composition. Crafted from un-grafted vines, known as 'Franc de Pied,' this technique imparts a distinctive intensity and purity to the wine. The vineyard's sustainable farming practices further elevate the natural integrity of the grapes.
Meticulous vinification in small oak barrels instills depth, structure, and texture to this mesmerizing Extra Brut. On the palate, expect a lively interplay of juicy quince and bright citrus, underscored by a tantalizing mineral edge. Exhibiting a harmonious balance between power and subtlety, the Nicolas Maillart Franc de Pied Extra Brut 2005 is an embodiment of Champagne's sophisticated terroir and Maillart's exceptional winemaking legacy.

Decanter (95)
A warm, sunny year produced this concentrated, elegant wine with refined aromas of ripe apple and quince, fresh hawthorn and a suggestion of mineral and toast. Supple and velvety in texture, it lacks nothing in substance or power to age for decades. The grapes are exclusively from vines in Avize, Le Mesnil, Oger, and Chouilly. A bit softer than the 2004 vintage, it is still a wine to seek out and should age well over at least the next decade.Inc. VAT£793.24
